He did have a torn Achilles tendon last season in the playoffs (which really sucks for basketball players) and I'm not sure if he'll be ready for the Jazz opening game hence the Jefferson move at the moment. He did play center for the Timberwolves too every now and again, although he is awful defensively there. Still not sure how I feel about the deal. If we can turn the cap space into a quality player during the season, I'd be in favor of it (especially if teams decide they need to avoid the luxury tax ala the Eric Maynor deal). This. I'm just guessing, but I would assume the eventual plan is to start Okur/Jefferson with Millsap remaining a stellar bench player, much like they had last year with Boozer. However, with Okur's health a major issue, you'll probably see a Jefferson/Millsap duo starting until Okur gets close to his old form. I think he'll use a 12 man rotation most of the year. I think that's the case though because I think the Heat will be up 40 on most teams by the 3rd quarter so anyone watching the NBA will get a large dose of those 2nd round picks they drafted/any D-league guys that the Heat sign. I mean really how much depth was on those great Bulls teams in the late 90s. You had Jordan, Pippen, Rodman and Kukoc who were all great to very good players. But in the playoffs they only played 7 guys over 10 minutes a game. The Heat have two of the best 4 players in the league, a star PF and a damn good player in Mike Miller. Chalmers is a solid player especially since he will likely get an incredible amount of open looks, Haslem is a solid player, they picked up Ilgauskas for depth and will probably add a couple more vets. I would be shocked if depth is a problem unless they suffer a bunch of injuries. Edit: I forgot they signed Juwan Howard. Especially if they do add Bell (although that is looking a lot less likely). But assuming they get Dampier and Arroyo/Alston you are looking at a starting lineup something along the lines of PG LeBron SG Wade SF Miller PF Bosh C Dampier/Haslem/Big Z. With a bench of Big Z, Howard, Haslem as your bigs and then Chalmers, Alston/Arroyo and possibly Raja Bell. That team has basically everything you could ask for except for a dominant defensive C but Dampier, Haslem, Howard and Big Z should be more than capable of manning that position considering there are very few great post players these days. Kobe's going to go downhill fast from here, IMO. We already saw some of it last year. He was able to put the injury out of his mind somewhat in the playoffs but it was already hurting him. Kobe had a worse PER than David Lee last year. Howard's weaknesses offensively are as well documented as Bosh's weaknesses defensively. Howard was 5th in the league in PER last year, Howard was 4th. I'd give you that one as a tie, but I will note that Howard was in that case where he has a much, much better roster to cover for his weaknesses. He said he as in contact with Boozer previous to signing and that he has been texting Ronnie Brewer to come and play in Chicago. He jokingly said "Were trying to start the Chicago Jazz." If we do get Redick, the last 2 pieces I'd like to see the Bulls add are a backup PG (Livingston) and a defensive/athletic 2 guard (Brewer). He won't get nearly the PPG or minutes that it will take to look like that level of player.
