ZoomSlowik
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 12, 2011 -> 06:01 PM) The real question would be how this effects their interest in CP3. It does seem odd given their pursuit of Paul. Sterling doesn't seem like the type to pay Williams $17 million to go away either (at least I'm pretty sure they'd have to buy out his player option too). DBAHO
Other GM's are complaining now because they thought Stern told Donald Sterling what offers other teams were putting in for Billups so that the CP3 deal can go ahead (with the inclusion of Bledsoe). On another note, Dwight Howard's words today were a bit more encouraging for a Magic fan. There's no doubt he wants that 2nd star to play with in order to stay with Orlando, but how we can pull that off with our roster currently I don't know. Sure superstar, even though you didn't go to college and probably read at an 6th grade level, i'll make sure to consult you on how to spend hundreds of millions of dollars. Steve9347
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 13, 2011 -> 11:12 AM) I dont understand how this is now the norm in the NBA. Cleveland, Miami, and now Orlando. I'm not noticing too many rings in recent memory for the teams letting their players be GM. Kobe wanted out. Smart moves in LA brought Gasol in and that shut him up. The only time Kobe played GM in getting Shaq out, Shaq won the next title with Miami. Great move, guy. These are just more reasons Derrick Rose was sent to us straight from heaven.

Steve9347
QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Dec 13, 2011 -> 12:43 PM) Still dumb. Most flops don't make nearly as much money as Kwame has. Kwame didn't play too terribly last year. You reckon he'd get about $4 million in a normal situation, while GSW needed to find a way to hit the salary floor so he got a free $3 million out of it. Sure, that inherently sounds stupid, but I guess paying Kwame extra on one year is better than signing another player you can't play and have to pay insurance, expenses, etc on. If the Magic are smart, they read this, and realize...none of those teams will be under the cap far enough to offer anything close to a max contract next year...Except Maybe the Nets, and it would be really pushing it for them to do so. Thus, if Dwight Howard wants to play for any of those teams other than Orlando, it's going to be really hard for him to have a team around him, and it's going to cost him $30-$40 million, and that's in NJ (depending of course on what the Nets do this year in order to fill out their roster and get to the salary floor). Great point. And really, how attractive would the Nets be? At that point Deron will be whoring himself out to the league trying to land in the best possible spot. Really, couldn't the Magic have as much a case as the Nets to sign both players? If they are serious about winning, they could rock a buyout to make enough room for both. If they are serious about winning, they could rock a buyout to make enough room for both. Orlando isn't remotely close to having room for two max contracts. Even with Gilbert Amnesty'd, and not counting Dwight or Glen Davis (contract figure not determined for Davis yet), the rest of their roster is slated to make $36 million. Even if they could wipe out all of that money with buyouts (which I don't think they can), that's a really big check to write to MAYBE have a shot at Deron Williams.
