Like he's not going to be the richest player in the league regardless of which team he signs with (salary, endorsements, etc).

Yeah, but the endorsement deals from smaller companies would be more lucrative in bigger cities. And the Nets owner offers him global connections.

I think this process is going to show us a lot about what Lebron thinks is important

Cavs - loyalty

Bulls/Heat - winning

Nets/Knicks/Clips- money

Sticking with the Cavs could be just as much about money as well, cause they can offer him the highest & longest contract.

I think the whole endorsement idea about LA & NY is a bit overrated in some people's minds. Its the 21st century, he can easily become a global icon whether he plays in New York, Cleveland, or Salt Lake City. The people in China that Nike advertises him too could care less what team he plays for.

A person like LeBron has people come to him. He doesnt need to have connections. Especially if he as a couple championship rings.

I think the extra money the Cavs can give him is over rated. In the grand vision of things, $30 million is a VERY small portion of a possible $1 billion.

I think you guys are ignoring the regional businesses he can endorse. We're not talking 100 million dollar deals, but a few million here or there for a regional company in New York? He's not going to get that playing in Cleveland.

And yeah, he's a global brand already, but I think if you put him on a russian owned team you've just opened the door to people he probably wouldn't connect with otherwise.

Edit: interesting article on the topic:

@WojYahooNBA - Knicks and Amar'e Stoudemire are making progress on 5 year, max contract, sources say. Framework of deal in place, talks continuing today.

@WojYahooNBA - Knicks and Stoudemire working on 5-year deal worth nearly $100 million, sources say. Another team chasing Amar'e believes he's off board.

@KCJHoop - If Amare deal with Knix happens, can't see LBJ going there. No chance LBJ, Stoudemire and that roster wins title.

And we have 1 massive thread.

I'm a little surprised that Amare would want to play for D'Antoni again, but at least the Knicks are coming away with at least 1 major FA from their POV.

Probably also means David Lee might be headed out the door, although it depends if Stoudemire's willing to be a 5 guy.

Just read a couple of Forbes articles about Mikhail Prokhorov. Very interesting.

This guy has the potential to be a dominant force (as owners go) in the NBA.

He has a net worth of over $13B, including $5B in cash... plus the type of ambition that would make Mark Cuban look like a slacker.

Article 1 About his acquiring the Nets

Article 2 A general financial article including his background, etc.

THe problem is that you can have all the money in the world, but if there is a cap, you are very limited in what you can do. Mark Cuban is loaded, but he cant just go and make a super team.

Now if he owned the Yankees, then that's a different story.

Bernsie just said apparently there is some mumblings about the Raptors being willing to take Deng (plus probably picks and other players) for Bosh and Hedo Turkoglu.

did they happen to mention how that might affect our positioning for lebron?
