His quote was no where near sounding like that to me.

Sounds to me like a 29 year old starting pitcher who has accomplished quite a bit in his career but only has 2 postseason starts, waived his no trade clause to play for a contender and didn't sign up to play out the remaining 2 or 3 years of his prime on a decimated club in the opening phases of a full rebuild.

6 awful starts doesn't change a damn thing: Jake Peavy is still Jake Peavy, he's got a pitcher's triple crown, 2 ERA titles and a Cy Young on his resume and when he's asked by a reporter if he's willing to play out his youth in the basement of the AL Central he's going to answer honeslty: f*** no.

And lets not forget, if he wanted to play on a crappy rebuilding team, he would have stayed in San Diego. He came here to win.

Update on Rios' Value:

http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=...010&month=0

3rd most valuable positional player in MLB, as of today.

I know we are only 10 weeks into the season but apart from Paulie, Rios has got to get kudos as the team MVP so far.

He sure has done his part to help that effort. How anyone can defend him when he's been one of the worst pitchers in the AL is hilarious.

6 awful starts doesn't change anything. He doesn't lose his right to talk after half a dozen lousy outings after being one of the best in the game up until this season.

This is the same idiocy we put up with last year with Rios. The usefulness of sample sizes is lost on too many people.

And you guys are 100% completely missing my point. Rios didn't say "he'd look to be moved" last year and I haven't said a word about Peavy until his latest remarks. Shut the f*** up and pitch like you are capable of, then demand a trade. Don't talk like you have no blame in this thing when you're one of the main reasons we are where we are.

The problem is your point is 100% made up.

Peavy didn't say he would "look to be moved either." There is a whole long quote that goes with that that you are entirely missing. You are taking a fragment of a sentence, and assuming you know what Peavy is actually thinking from it to make it something way bigger than it actually was.

He's not demanding s***. He was asked if he'd want to be traded if the Sox went into a full rebuilding mode and he rightfully said yeah, there ain't a damn thing wrong with that. Like I said: 6 bad starts isn't going to change who he is, if someone asks him a question he's going to give an honest answer. So what does his ERA have to get down to before he can start talking to the media? Under 4?

"I just want a chance to win,'' Peavy said. "I believe it can happen here. I'm excited to be in the situation. Nothing's changed just because we haven't played well. I'm excited to be in a situation where you talk about it's not going to be a rebuilding process. If that were the case, I would certainly try to be moved, but that's the least of my worries.

What in the hell am I missing? He goes out of his way to say how happy he is here, how he thinks we have a chance to win and how he doesn't think the Sox will be going into a rebuilding process then offers a hypothetical situation in which his current team does look to rebuild then he wouldn't want to be a part of it.

My god, that's about as well as you can answer that question.

He'd have sounded worse if he'd said "No comment/Next question".

I think people are just annoyed with him being outspoken when he's a big part of the reason that the White Sox are probably going to be trading players this July.

Jake Peavy is outspoken. That's his thing, why would he deny a part of himself just to be P.C? That's not Jake. Let him talk as long as he backs it up through his performance. Yesterday, he did just that.

So no talking to the media until that ERA drops below 4? Does this apply to all players? Managers? Is there a curve? If Beckham gets his OPS up above .700 can he give the reporters a little more than "no comment"? Ok, so all position players sans Konerko and Rios are barred from speaking to the media, the only acceptable answer to any question is "no comment". And the coaching staff including Ozzie shall not speak until the team gets up above .500 or within 3 games of a playoff spot.

I think you're reaching a bit here. I'm glad he wants to be here, but we wouldn't be talking about trading players away if he (and others) were doing their jobs better.

Agreed - no need for him to shut up, his comments would have more merit if he wasn't part of the problem, that's all.

Even if he is part of the problem, so what? He'd still be 100% right in wanting out if the Sox went into rebuilding mode. s***, he even worded it as a hypothetical situation. And no, I'm not reaching at all, that's basically what you're saying: if you're not performing you shouldn't be answering media queries, there's like 5 guys on the club right now who haven't been part of the problem.

AJ plays like s*** for 2 months then suggests that trade rumors have affected his play on the field. Well the only reason there are trade rumors is because the team isn't winning and his s*** play has played a part in the team losing. Seems like he shouldn't be running his mouth in this manor based on what I'm reading in this thread.

You were reaching - I never said he shouldn't be answering media queries. In fact, I said I had no problem with him talking.

Now that we cleared that up, if he did demand a trade or want to be traded if he didn't like the direction of the club, he should blame himself for his performance. Maybe he would, I don't know. He's been part of the problem, a reason why this talk is even relevent.

Exactly. There's no way any Sox fan should be mad at anything Peavy said there. His answer is A-plus on all counts.

It is pretty likely we will face Strasburg on Saturday the 19th if the schedule pans out. Great challenge and I hope we do well. Anyone catching today's Strasburg game to watch him feast on the Tribe??
