South Side Fireworks Man
QUOTE (chiguy79 @ Jun 5, 2010 -> 11:14 PM) I was just dicing up the Sox roster to think through who all they could actually trade and get some value for versus who they would keep this is what I came up with. I can't see the Sox moving Thornton/Buehrle or Alexei although I would think they would listen to offers on everyone. It is amazing how many players we have that I can't imagine any contender would want any part of. I am sure JR is putting pressure on Kenny to cut the payroll big time with attendance levels running where they are, this is what happens when you don't have a DH and you are counting on Juan Pierre, Mark Kotsay and Mark Teahen to produce. I mean we had Omar Vizquel DH, that is grounds for dismissal for incompetence regarding the entire organization. Keepers 56 Mark Buehrle SP L L 31 6-2 235 St. Charles, MO $14,000,000 50 John Danks SP L L 25 6-2 210 Austin, TX $3,450,000 34 Gavin Floyd SP R R 27 6-6 235 Annapolis, MD $2,750,000 46 Sergio Santos RP R R 26 6-3 210 Bellflower, CA $400,000 37 Matt Thornton RP L L 33 6-6 235 Three Rivers, MI $2,250,000 15 Gordon Beckham 2B R R 23 6-0 185 Atlanta, GA $445,000 10 Alexei Ramirez SS R R 28 6-2 170 Pinar del Rio, Cuba $1,225,000 Too bad they didn't trade Beckham this offseason when his value was probably sky high. To me Beckham always seemed like a guy who would develop into a "nice little player but I never saw him as the potential superstar others did and never thought he should have been an "untouchable". That's about what I had him pegged for. But since many others seemed to think he was a can't miss super stud, they probably could have gotten quite a return for him if they traded him this offseason. I still think he'll reach his potential and have a nice career, but he's never going to be a hall-of -famer.

Which would be a very nice offensive number coming from a 2nd baseman. It's certainly attainable for him. A bigger question on this team is.........Will Quentin ever regain or come close to his 2008 form?

It's certainly attainable for him. A bigger question on this team is.........Will Quentin ever regain or come close to his 2008 form? I'm going to go out on a limb and say no. At the same time, it does us nothing by dealing him now. Give Q and Beckham an entire season to see if they can turn it around. Guys that are almost certain to leave are Konerko, AJ, Jenks and Putz. Guys that can stay or go include: Pierre, Peavy (only few teams can afford him), Buerhle (St. Louis), Kotsay- if someone needs a bench player- they got one! Andruw Jones- where did this guy go? Younger guys that KW may give up on: Teahen- this was just a bad move. He's bad defensively and isn't that great offensively. I'm tired of this project ALREADY. Either we keep him as a super sub or KW will deal him and eat half the contract. Floyd- is he only going through a terrible stretch of games or is his career taking a turn for the worst? KW is going to have to be patient with this one. Guys to bring up: There isn't many who have deserved to come up- but i would like to see Viciedo come up to play some 3b at some point in the year. Obviously if we deal AJ- that means Flowers will come up as well. Its time to let these guys get some MLB at bats.

This is like the third time I've had to say this in a week, so let me say it as clearly as I can. Dayan Viciedo is no longer a 3b. They have moved Dayan Viciedo to 1b. Dayan Viciedo is a 1b. He will not play 3b.
WCSox
QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 5, 2010 -> 09:26 PM) Good for him. Trade him. He hasn't done squat for the White Sox this season. Given how he's pitched this year, I imagine that very few GMs would be willing to take on Peavy's contract. We're going to be stuck with him for at least another year. fathom
Mark Buehrle is the person we need to be trying to trade. Said it before the season, and I'll say it now. There's a ton of miles on that left shoulder of his. I'd be willing for the Sox to include some money when trading him if it meant getting some top prospects. fathom
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 06:55 PM) Why would you want to do that right now? Cause even if he's struggling, he's a focal point of our starting rotation going forward. Not like we're looking to have a 30 million dollar payroll. This year, I agree. But the situation gets more complex next year. If Kenny "goes for it" and we end up in the same place that we're in this year, you have to weigh getting less than what you've outlined above vs. draft picks and a lack of salary relief. The kid is 23. Exactly. I never had the ridiculous expectations for the kid as others have had. I expected him to be a "nice little player". Average defensively, decent but not great speed, decent average (.280ish), decent power (18-20HR) and generally good baseball IQ. But some, including many here had the kid as the next Robbie Alomar or George Brett and saw him as "untouchable." I thought the Sox could get a great value for him if they wanted to trade him this past offseason.
South Side Fireworks Man
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 01:21 PM) Right... because you wouldn't have throw a fit if we traded Gordo? Not me, unless of course they traded him for some questionable talent. But if for example they traded him straight up for say Adrian Gonzalez, or something like that, I'd have been pleased. But again that's because my expectations for the kid were not as high as a lot of others'. BTW, I was not one least bit upset when KW traded the "great" Brandon McCarthy.
