QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 12:55 PM)
What would be better for the franchise is that they win today and go on a 15 game winning streak. That's not going to happen, but losing for draft position in June rarely can be seen as good for the franchise.

It's not about draft position, it's about a call to action for the major league team and prospective changes. The best thing for this team would be a 15 game winning streak. But winning today and using that as an excuse to accept the status quo of mediocrity is not good.

Vizquel, Teahen, Jones, Kotsay and Castro don't even make the bench on more than 5 other major league teams, mostly NL squads.

Add Nix to that list, that's 40% of our "offensive" roster.

Who would claim any of those players (if they were DFA'ed) and dare to start them besides an NL team?

A hit...pretty marginal one.

Alexei The Cuban Miscue Ramirez strikes again.

There is a big difference between being on a roster and starting.

So maybe since JR and Selig are so tight, we should just petition to move to the NL Central?

That's our best chance to be competitive in the next 3-5 years. That or our starting pitching deciding to show up along with Beckham, AJ and Quentin on a consistent basis.

Agreed, half of those guys even start everyday in the N.L.

The problem is that we're the Kansas City Royals without Zach Greinke and Luke Hochevar, along with some serious offensive talent in the minors coming up and on the rise.

Really, I have to give you a list, and 1/2 the league doesn't count because they're in the NL?

Castro has a handful of at bats, but he's still got a .655 OPS and his career numbers against LHP are solid. Teams in contention that are missing a RH Catcher? Oakland, Texas, the Yankees, the Red Sox, the Rays if Shoppach can't come back healthy.

Teams that could use a backup 1b/OF? Hell, the Yankees, the Red Sox again (esp. if they can get someone to take part of Lowell's deal), the Blue Jays, the A's again.

Backup/defensive replacement in the IF? Blue Jays, Rangers, Yankees, Red Sox if they could move Lowell's deal.

Andruw Jones? Teams that could use an OF/DH bat? The Jays if Lind keeps sucking, the Red Sox desperately, the Yankees, Oakland could seriously use some DH power, LAA has room for OF help since Matsui has been bad.

Teahen...LAA, could work for depth in Toronto, would fit well in Minnesota, etc.

Greinke is 1-7 with a 3.60 ERA this season. Last year his WHIP was 1.07, this year it's right back to his career average, 1.25.

That was an awfully good play by Pierre getting to that ball.

Fangraphs has Pierre as the best defensive LF in the MLB this year according to UZR/150.

Rios comes out to be the 2nd best defensive CF in the MLB this year according to UZR/150.

Quentin comes out to be the 2nd WORST defensive RF in the MLB this year according to UZR/150.

What a difference that makes.....
