FWIW, if Sale blazes through the minors (big if) soon, I'd be open to shipping Gavin right away once he regains his value.

A rotation of Danks/Peavy/Buehrle/Hudson/Sale would be hypothetically wonderful.

Has Buehrle shown you anything more then Floyd has that he'll still be a quality pitcher in the 2-3 years till Sale gets here? I think Peavy, Danks, Floyd, Hudson, Sale is the more likely option at this point.

It strikes me that Sale is most likely the replacement for D1.

I didn't even begin to think about that. Do you see this a response to him not signing his extension and an indication that he's going to be moved?

It also could be a product of Danks potentially bringing the biggest package of anyone on this team if we do indeed pull a full rebuild.

Well, my instinct says no. But I'll agree at some level with what 2k5 says. There's right now no reason to expect that he's going to re-up with us, he's 2.5 years away from FA and so right now is probably his "Peak value", even low budget teams desperate for a pitcher could afford his salary for a year or two.

I don't think they'd draft Sale because they thought they wanted to move D1. But it is possible that having drafted Sale will make them a little more willing to do so, if a team offers the right package.

Danks is still pretty young, I dont understand the point in trading him.

He's a free agent at the end of 2012, he's rejected every offer the Sox have made to sign him long-term so far, and it's entirely possible that he could be up for on the order of a 6-7 year, $15-$20 million a year deal.

He is worth it.

He's worth it to a team that can afford it. If your total salary hangs at $95 million, then that's >20% of your salary on 1 player.

True that. Gotta hope for some kind of a discount, I would be totally comfortable with moving Buehrle and offering Danks about 70% of the salary that we save on Burls.

D1 has shown zero signs of offering any discount. If he was willing to give any discount they'd likely have signed him by now.

D1 I'm sure is sitting there realizing he'll hit free agency as a 27 year old if he doesn't sign anything. He gets in the right groove one of these next 2 years, and he could be talking about nearly Sabathia type money.

Yeah. He'll probably end up being traded. What a downer that would be.
