JPN366
QUOTE (Mattchoo @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 09:48 AM) I cannot envision AJ getting traded tonight. Flowers is just not good enough. I think the Sox should trade Flowers before it's too late. By the way, this is coming from an huge Flowers fan since we acquired him. The only other player I've seen hit the ball as hard as Flowers is Mike Stanton.

I think the Sox should trade Flowers before it's too late. By the way, this is coming from an huge Flowers fan since we acquired him. Flowers has hit everywhere we've put him. He has 5 bombs in his last six games. His defense is improving by the day, and he has a much better approach at the plate then AJ. He's also younger. JPN366
Flowers actually has plate discipline, incredible plate discipline. I'm sure most of his K's are looking, not swinging. Most of them were looking last season when I saw him play.
JPN366
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 11:34 AM) Who holds the record for the longest home run at US Cellular Field? Hit the ball hard, never said how far. Do you not like players who hit the ball hard? Have you seen so many infield flyballs that you don't remember what it's like to see someone hit the ball perfectly?
ThunderBolt
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 12:38 PM) Yep. You do realize that proves nothing, right? I can come up with two names too, here we go… Josh Fields and Coby Rasmus. Just because they're two guys who play baseball, it doesn't make them at all similar. JPN366
The hardest hit balls I've ever seen were by Tyler Flowers, Mike Stanton and Ryan Braun.
Leonard Zelig
So AJ's rights kick in tomorrow, right? Does that mean that he would have to be traded by midnight tonight?

South Side Fireworks Man
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 11:47 AM) Flowers does. Sure strikes out a lot though. Maybe he needs more time in the minor leagues before he tries to hit major league pitching. I know it's a novel approach but maybe it makes a little sense rather than trading away AJ for some crap just to save $4M and then watching Flowers flounder away at the big league level. And if scouts from other teams think he's as good as you say, maybe it would be better to re-sign AJ and trade Flowers while his value is so high. Or pencil him in as the 2011 starting catcher and save a little money because as of right now we're going to have next to nothing to spend in the offseason. Flowers is hitting for huge power this season...a HR every 14.5 ABs I don't think that matters to a lot of people. There's a mentality that if you weren't here in 2005, you have nothing to offer this organization in the future..
Kalapse
Every once in a while you do get lucky with these trades. I hear the Indians got a nice little catching prospect for a 34 year old, soon to be free agent third baseman around the deadline in 2008. South Side Fireworks Man
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 12:17 PM) Well, it's too bad the Cell plays big then. LOL! That reminds me of the time in I think 2006 when Ross Gload was finally recalled after publicly stating his disappointment of being left in AAA even though he was hitting well down there. He comes in as a pinch hitter and on the first pitch hits a ball deep to the opposite field which was caught on the warning track in LF. Hawk announcing the game comments, "Well, I guess that's a home run in Charlotte." Anyway, hitting in a band box in Charlotte against AAA pitching is not quite the same as hitting at the Cell against Major League pitching. Anyway, hitting in a band box in Charlotte against AAA pitching is not quite the same as hitting at the Cell against Major League pitching. Here are the dimensions for Knight Stadium in Charlotte: Left Field — 326 feet Center Field — 400 feet Right Field — 325 feet Here are the ones for the CELL: Left Field - 330 feet (101 m) Left-Center - 375 feet (114 m) Center Field - 400 feet (122 m) Right-Center - 375 feet (114 m) Right Field - 335 feet (102 m) Backstop - 60 feet (18 m) Outfield Wall Height - 8 feet (2 m) That combined 14 feet from all sides of the field, is not going to kill his power. I'd love to eat crow on this one and see Flowers excell at Catcher for the Sox for many years to come. But I don't see any sense in getting rid of AJ just to save a few million bucks just because Flowers has been hot for a couple of weeks in Charlotte after struggling for the first couple of months. Gordon Beckham was supposed to be the savior and we've watched him struggle to adjust in the big leagues. And we've seen Brian Anderson, Joe Borchard, Josh Fields, etc., fall flat on their faces in the majors after tearing up the minor leagues. I'm not too anxious on seeing AJ dumped just to go through that again.
