iamshack
How about during the Bubonic Plague? It killed 1/3 of the population of Europe in the 14th century. Wiki

ChiSox_Sonix
QUOTE (girlslikebaseballtoo#26 @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 03:43 PM) That would have been terrible! I would have been such a hermit back then ...I would have been in my home trying to invent hand sanitizer and bug spray!! The problem is that no, you wouldnt, and that's why it was so bad. You would have a family that needed tending to, land that needed work, and good that needed to be purchased from the market. The thought of diseases being communicable was not fully understood. (Hell, some towns burned and/or banished Jews because they thought they were the cause). And with the lack of sanitary conditions then, even hypothetically locking yourself away would not have worked. Rats were ever prevalent and the fleas they carried would find you. Avoiding contact with the infected was virtually impossible unless you were massively wealthy or royalty.

It was a joke ya silly goose!! haha I think it's just a smidgen morbid that the nursery rhyme, "ring around the rosy", is about the plague. My family, on my mother's side, has always been very involved in Renaissance Faires, I learned about this when I was about 11 years old ...I was genuinely creeped!!! Soxbadger
The plague origins could be a myth. http://www.snopes.com/language/literary/rosie.asp Its not conclusive, and I was told the same thing about the plague reference., it just never seemed to make sense to me. lostfan
I wouldn't want to be an Indian at the time when whites landed on this continent... not so much because of the wars (although those don't help at all), but because smallpox wiped out 90% of them. That's every bit as terrifying as the Plague in Europe.
