His LD% is barely lower than what it was last year and he's got a .250 BABIP.

 

That's bad luck.

 

Plus, he's hitting far more ground balls this year, and those usually go for a higher average than fly balls.

And that's why that stat can be deceptive. Beckham has hit just a million weak choppers to the pitcher and right side this season. He probably hasn't hit more than 20 line drives all season.

25 line drives actually.

 

We'll never know how hard he's hitting those grounders, but truth is, once the sample gets large enough, it'll even itself out. There's always the luck factor in all of this. We know there is a good amount of ground balls that go for hits even though they're nothing but little choppers.

 

Look what Beckham's done today with those.
