I have a question!!

I'm trying to plan a trip From Bakersfield, California (or somewhere in the near, surrounding area), to Bristol, Virginia (or close to it).

It's going to be 3 adults, leaving California on the 30th of this month or the 1st of July, and returning on the 6th ..I'm am having LOTS of trouble finding deals ..or prices under $1,200-$1,300 ..IT'S RIDICULOUS!!

If someone could PLEASE help me find the cheapest way of transportation possible, I would greatly appreciate it and love you forever!! :D

Are you trying to fly directly from Bakersfield to Bristol? That would be why... Bristol is kind of in the middle of nowhere. Try LAX (which would suck for you but not as bad as like $500) to the nearest regional airport... which it looks like is Tri-City airport which isn't too far from Bristol.

If you don't want to do the 2 hour drive to and from LAX, and wanna fly out of Bakersfield, that's probably about an extra $200.

You could fly to Roanoke if you can find somebody willing to make the two hour or so drive to pick you up and drive you back to the airport when you leave, they had some very good deals there in my experience. Or you could do the drive to LAX deal too if that works, similar drivetime.

Bakersfield to Bristol will probably be an expensive flight though because it's podunk airport to podunk airport. A quick search on the website of the Tri-City airport in Bristol shows me you can do a round trip flight matching your qualifications for about 600 bucks a person on United. Best I could find out of Bakersfield was over 800 on US Airways with 2 stops.

Of course, I did those searches in a matter of seconds, so you could probably do better in both regards.

Thank You!!

I have even been looking at Amtrak prices!!

One of the closest stations to Bristol is in W-S!! ..I wouldn't mind catchin' a game on my way in!

I'm going to keep looking ..it'll work itself out ...always does!! :)

AGAIN ..Thank You guys!!

If you wanted to be really, really cheap, there's always the megabus / greyhound, but you'd need about 10 separate trips I'm assuming.

Amtrak seems like a pretty good solution though.

Yeah Amtrak is a good idea if you're willing to deal with the really long trip.

You could fly into North Carolina and drive to Bristol from there. Charlotte isn't all that far from Bristol.

You should fly out of LAX.

A few months ago I took the Amtrak from Chicago to Syracuse. It was a 13 hour trip, wasn't actually that bad. The train ran from 9PM-11AM. Most of the traveling was in the evening hours, then I didn't have to waste a day traveling. The reason we took that instead of flying was because it was on short notice and was quite cheaper.

But glad you booked your trip! :) Have fun!

Where did you book? And how much was it? I'm intrigued because when I drove out there from NY last year it was a 12 hour drive. I'm going out again the last weekend in August so I'd love a decent alternative to driving there again. Thanks.

How much did it end up costing you? Hope you have a good time!

For 3 adults, flying into Charlotte NC. from LAX (Charlotte is the least expensive airport to fly into in that area), it was $1,693 ...$250 of that is a rental car.
