I was very impressed with Steve Begleiter's game from last year. I'd like to see him do well again this year if he's playing.

Hard to pull against Hachem. He beat himself a lot last year. Slow playing a pair on Kings and then letting an Ace come out on turn and river, allowing other players to stick around. Needs to be more aggressive like when he won it.

Good buddy of mine from college is playing in the main event, he won a seat from one of the online sites. He is trying to get some of us to buy in a percent of his entry to help offset some of his costs. I'm thinking about buying in 1% ($100), but only like 10% of the players win any money, and the lowest prize is just $20k, which would only double my hundred bucks.

Please tell me someone else saw that Duhamel/Affleck hand last night. That was one of the most shocking hands I have seen in years.

 

I thought Affleck was going to be in the November 9 for sure. He was easily the best player in the tournament and that was the worst bad beat I have seen in a long time considering the circumstances.

 

Duhamel looked like he felt bad about taking all those chips.

Wasn't that shocking, or that bad a beat. Duhamel's lowest odds were 4 to 1, I've seen much worse comebacks. A nice flop bettered his odds. Because of the timing it was totally devastating of course. Duhamel didn't exactly have odds when he called after the flop or turn, but he was very very close to having them in each case. I wouldn't say they were bad calls. And I understood his pre-flop re-raise, at the least he gets more information about Affleck's hand and at best he wins the pot right there

Duhamel got bailed out. He played his jacks like he had aces or kings and got caught because Affleck had aces. He was lucky and got bailed out on river.

Didn't say he wasn't lucky, but still he had 10 outs. Several players get knocked out of the tourney on much worse beats every year

I've seen guys hit quads on the river to beat a higher set. It's a call I wouldn't have made, and I think you can argue a pretty irrational call, but he had quite a few outs still.

Given the circumstances, that was one of the worst bad beats I've ever seen. Afflect would have had $41,000,000 chips and been the clear favorite to win the $8 million. At the very least, he basically lost $1 million+, because of that river card. I'd have put my hand through a wall.

I definitely saw it, and I gotta say that I'm kind of happy that Affleck didn't make it to the November 9. There was something about him that annoyed me, tilted me, in the motion he uses to check.

Who does everyone want to see win the November 9?

 

Here's who I want to win, ranked 1-9 from who I most want to see win to who I least want to see win, and why...

 

1. Michael Mizrachi: I want him to win the most because I actually met him once. Back in December 2007 I played in the same poker tournament with Michael Mizrachi in Vegas, and when I got eliminated in 31st place, they combined the tables and Mizrachi was moved to my vacated seat. I decided to hang around and watch the rest of the tournament and spoke to him during a break, he was a very nice guy.

 

2. John Dolan: I like his composure and style when he plays poker. I think he would be a very good ambassador for poker, and I would be a bigger fan of him than I am of Cada and Eastgate, both of whom I am not a fan of.

 

3. Jonathan Duhamel: I like his ice-cold demeanor at the table, he DOES NOT flinch. That's a poker skill I always try to perfect, and Duhamel has it down pat. He's also my hero for eliminating Affleck.

 

4. Matthew Jarvis: I like his deliberate playing style as well, and I think he would also be a good ambassador for poker as a WSOP ME champion.

 

5. Filipo Candio: There's something I like about Candio, he just cracks me up. He's not obnoxious like Jamie Gold was, instead he's obnoxious in a "socially retarded" way. Which is kinda funny. Plus I think he's the most comical of all the players in the November 9 to watch. I'd be happy if Candio won.

6. John Racener: I'm kind of so-so on Racener. I do like how he cashed in some WSOPC events and he has live experience. But he just makes it to #6 on my list. I would be happy if he wins, but be indifferent if he loses.

7. Soi Nguyen: He's another Darvin Moon. I'm not really a fan of his, but at least he's not an online poker geek.

 

8. Jason Senti: He seems like a nice guy, but he's more of an online player rather than a live player.

 

9. Joseph Cheong: Cheong is an online player personified. I'm just not a fan of "online poker savants" because I'm an old-school live player.

 

Other players I wish made the final table instead of Racener/Cheong/Senti/Nguyen:

Adam Levy, Ronnie Bardah, Hasan Habib, David Baker.

Haahhaha, but half of the time when I play poker in casinos, I wear a hoodie. I always wear it to keep the lights out of my eyes and have a little shade on my face. :-p

I like it when a pro wins but Grinder is short stacked and will be tough.

 

You forget it is like 4 months since they last played so who ever was hot or cold at the time no longer is.

He doesn't. He is looking to cover his expenses by selling a percentage of any winnings he may make. So you stake his a percentage of what the entry fee would have been, to cover his expenses, and you would get that percentage of any winnings he might make.

Thanks. When I said % of entry, I meant like % of what his entry pays out, if anything. I didn't end up buying in, but I know some other people did. He struggled and didnt win anything, but he still might have ended up ahead with the people buying in covering his expenses. Thats why he did it.

What I wish they would do is show a clock on the screen on tv. I'd like to know how many hours the actual poker is taking. I think I heard that a few years ago Chip Reese and Any Bloch played heads up like 5 hours in one finale? Is that true?

It's true. I believe it was the H.O.R.S.E. Championship.

I'm interested in how the final table will be aired on ESPN this year.

 

Last year they started at 8pm and went til 10:30 but this year they are having a late start at 9. If they short change the final table into an hour, I'll be pissed. They started making it a big deal by moving it to the Penn and Teller Theatre a few years ago.

 

Hope it is dragged out because the back and forth last year was awesome.
