Ozzie doesn't want to add anyone...

Most managers are going to say "i like what we have here". Its the right thing to say, esspecially when the team just won 11 games in a row. However, if KW wants to make a serious run at more than just a division title, he WILL get that hitter. KW will make a trade, I can promise you that.

I missed this post, but you said what I did...but you said it first.

The players are smart enough to realize that, too, so it really serves absolutely no purpose to say something that is not true. Unless Ozzie really does hold that dumb position, which is possible.

What if their are players on the team that think the team does need a good LH bat to make a serious run?

Of course it serves a purpose. Those guys are aware of whether their manager thinks they're any good or not and they're aware of what he says publicly. There is really no reason to overreact to this.

Why does this annoy anybody? Why would a manager ever say, "Yeah I don't think my team is good enough, we could use some help"? Especially while the team is playing well. I never understand this reaction from people.

It's talk. Nothing more. Trust me, if there's something available to them and they can swing a deal, they'll make one. Ozzie said the same thing during the offseason, and KW still went hard after Damon.

Funny you would pick that post out of all of them considering just how tame it is. Why does it annoy me? Because it does, it's a normal human reaction that I can not explain, I read the quote and it irks me. Perhaps I just dislike bulls*** coach speak.

I obvious "get it" considering I posted this like 6 posts down from that one:

Really though, what's the guy going to say? He can't name underperforming players specifically and he's not going to publically state that he feels his team needs help. He has to show faith in his guys whether he believes it or not. The only thing that bothers me is that I think he believes it, he believed it in March and he believes it now. Though that really shouldn't matter.

Then why would you say it in the first place? You know why he's doing it, so there's really no reason for it to bother you.

Like a lot of things in life: I understand it but I don't have to like it.

I don't think there is anything wrong with saying "With the way this offense as a whole has performed, it might be time to bring in a hot bat."

If it were me, I would have said "With the way this offense has sucked ass, Kenny needs to go get Prince Fielder."

;)

Fielder is on the short list of guys that I'd give up Hudson and Flowers to get.

Ranger, why the heck isn't Dayan playing?

This team won 11 in a row ... great. I love it and applaud Oz and the team.

But the offense is still pretty damn s***ty. Four hits again tonight.

Send him down if he's not gonna play. If anything it won't piss off the fan base seeing him sit there and rot.

p.s. title of this thread needs to be changed to: KW needs to add someone (even though I think that someone should be Dayan).

I honestly think if Steve Stone wasn't employed by the sox org., he would definitely be saying something about Ozzie and the lack of playing time for Dayan, like he did with Sweet Lou and Colvin. I mean it is probably killing him now to stay quiet about it.

I would agree, Ace.

Doesn't Stone do some radio work in the day sometimes?

I would think on there if he's asked about it he's going to have to tell the truth. He seems like a straight shooter.

I guess during the telecast, he could avoid bringing it up. Out of sight; out of mind.

As bad as Kotsay and Jones are, just let Dayan DH if Oz is so set on playing oldie Omar every single day.

He doesn't even yank Omar in Sunday lineups anymore, does he?

Oz simply needs to have Pierre and Omar out there or he must feel panicked without them.

If they're aware of how he really feels, and the fan base is smart enough to know Ozzie is talking out of his butt and really would like a good LH bat, what purpose does it serve?

Again, assuming Oz doesn't actually believe what he said.

Funny, but you would not have said that if it was your team.

You say the diplomatic thing because you're trying to keep as much attention off trade talk and as much focus on the field as possible. The moment the manager says, "yeah, we need help" it becomes a daily, distracting topic. I'm aware it could be a bit of a distraction anyway, but the moment the manager admits publicly to needing help, it'll blow up times 10.

It's a non-issue. It's a manager telling his team he believes in the team he has. This really isn't shocking.

Perhaps, but Stone probably thinks the Cubs are out of it so therefore should have a long look at Colvin who has produced pretty good in his limited playing time. The Sox were on a roll when DV was brought up so you don't mess with a streaking team. Maybe if DV had and many AB's as Colvin when Stone made his comment and his production was just as good and the Sox were out of it Stone would say the same thing. But the situations are different so merit a more cautious approach.

Of course not. Stoney knows where the bread comes from, and he doesn't want to suffer the same fate here as he did with that team a little bit to the north of us. Then again, in Stone's defense, the Dayan thing isn't the same thing yet as the Colvin thing. However, if things continue as they are and Stone keeps quiet, he certainly will look like a hypocrite.

I will say in general, Stone isn't as critical of us as our announcer as he was of the Cubs as their announcer (or, at least as he was of them in the later days as their announcer). Maybe part of that was he just got tired of the whole Cub thing, which would be understandable. But still, I hope he understands he's really straddling the line of looking inconsistent.

Yes, but, as mentioned, maybe the White Sox felt it would be good for Viciedo to have some experience of being up with the big league club...now, for him to play so sporadically for the next month, that would be more unacceptable, but it's fine for just 2-3 weeks.

They can always stick him in the AFL or Winter Ball if they want or another Camp Cora.

If Viciedo had hit 2-3 homers in his first couple of weeks and was still sitting on the bench waiting for lefties in the other team's rotations, then it would be a stronger argument. You can't really compare Colvin and Viciedo, because the Cubs are almost 90% out of it for this season because of the Zambrano situation and the fact they might be trading Lee or Ramirez.
