Adam Dunn Trade rumor thread

I think he was referring to the Angels, who reportedly wanted Lee. Since Lee's a non-option, it's assumed they'll up their bid for Dunn.

 

I was indeed referring to the Angels, as well as the Rangers who were more or less looking for a temporary first basemen. Not necessarily lefty handed hitters. They both have solid 1B, one is hurt Morales and the other needs more time (and the rangers are in it to win it). That's why Dunn or Lee made sense for either both line ups have balance and the need for a stop gap.

 

With the Angels, Rangers, and Rays all "in" I don't like our chances they have great farm and could afford to give up prospects.

To me it would really be an upset if the Sox get Dunn. How often have they been tied to be close to getting someone and then it doesn't happen? It seems almost all the deals they make appear out of the blue.

I agree. With all the talk about Dunn, it sets up Kenny with the perfect smokescreen to acquire someone else he has his eye on. I still wouldn't be surprised to see Berkman end up on the Sox or a guy out of nowhere like Markakis.

Jordan Danks will NOT be in any deal for Adam Dunn -- guaranteed. Simply put, Jordan will not be traded til Big Bro gets his extension. There is no way KW gives up Jordan Danks and risks upsetting John. Even though Jordan's trade value has been diminished, it matters not, because he isn't being dangled.

When was the last time the Braves actually gave up a top (elite) level prospect that actually panned out? I really can't think of one...Andy Marte, Jarrold Saltalamachia, Tyler Flowers. Those guys really seem to know or tout their prospects well and package them in trades. So I think we go ahead and trade Flowers because the Braves gave him to us and it was for Javy "Freakin'" Vasquez so you know he can't be all that good.

Technically it was a year and a half of Teixeira, they dealt Tex away the middle of the next year because they were out of the race. They got Kotchman for him, who at the time still was looked at as promising after his power showed up briefly when he was first called up.

I'm sure they at least considered it plausible but even if they said so publicly, I seriously doubt they could have been that dumb about a Boras client. I'm pretty sure you can find posts of mine here from 2005-2006 predicting that Tex would become the Yankees 1b. He ust happened to hit the FA market the year that Giambi's deal expired.

ah yes, I completely forgot about that, then you're right, they may have thought they had a chance, but with Boras they likely didn't factor in too much, not like Freddy and the Sox

Seems the market for Dunn is shrinking with the Angels likely selling, the Rangers most likely getting Cantu, and the rays have been rumored not to have that much interest in him (the wanted Werth). I think KW is waiting out Rizzo because he knows they won't extend him for the $ wanted. I truly could see Kenny pullin if a Dunn deal with reasonable prospect expense.

 

( I also think from reports it makes sense he is also looking for a mid rotation arm to add, in case we give up Huddy)

I think Santos would make a good guy to build this package around. I don't think they'd have much of a use for Flowers. Montero's going to be a very good offensive catcher for years to come.

 

 

No thanks. Viciedo might be someone is a year or so that outshines a rental player like Dunn. Santos might be out closer. Both are extremely affordable. I am not into paying any hitter not named Konerko 14 or 15 million a year.

I agree, I probably over value Viciedo but in my eyes he is untouchable. I know Vizquel has a lot to do with Alexi's great season. But it can't be overlooked he started playing a lot better when Viciedo came up. Viciedo ha a shot to be a top power guy in the AL in a year or two.

I don't think Viciedo has anything to do with Alexei's improved play. Vizquel yes, with his tips in the field and "mentoring" role.

You don't think having another young player from the same country (Cuba) who speaks the same language and has played with/against you in Cuba doesn't help Alexi's comfort. I think that is neive, I'm not saying on field performance per se but rather it helps Alexi relax after an error, a bad at bat, or game and he can talk to another player in his own language.

There's a lot of Spanish speakers on this team, including the manager. I don't think Viciedo's had that big of an influence on him.

Um, no. Lexi's in his third year here. He's 27/28. He's fine. If anything, he'll make Dayan more comfortable. Viciedo has been here for a month, his presence has not done anything for Alexei. You're the one being naive. You do realize we have several players who speak "his language" right? And that Ozzie and Joey Cora are Latin American right...?
