So uh, Rays beat the twins. Big surprise

It's really starting to pan out the way everyone else in the off-season predicted: The AL Central is a very mediocre division, with the top 3 teams being mediocre. The Twins are the best "Mediocre" team in the division. I'll be very surprised, especially with the way we played the Royals (read: pathetically), that we're anywhere closer to the Twins than we are right now (2 GB), in a week's time. My prediction: We'll be about 4 GB in a week, after the Rangers have their way with us

I f***ing hate the Rangers, and I hate the Twins

flame away, but I'm far from sold on this team, psychologically FRAGILE.

I think that approach is pretty commonplace here, so I don't think much flaming will be in order.

But I don't see a whole lot from the Twins that makes me think they are going to be running away with anything.

Look at their run differential, then look at ours.

Edit: Oh, and if you don't want to buy into Run Differential, check out their interdivisional splits:

MIN

vs. CHW: 3-2

vs. CLE: 4-2

vs. DET: 6-3

vs. KC: 6-3

CHW

vs. MIN: 2-3

vs. KC: 4-5

vs CLE: 4-8

vs DET: 3-1

Yeah, but going forward, I think our team continues to improve and their SP slowly gets worse.

they have a lot more games against the Indians than we do, and that's not a bad thing. The Indians are playing some good baseball, led by the stud Carlos Santana. My prediction is that he's the best catcher in the AL Central by 2013.

Cliff Lee might be getting traded this weekend. Hopefully someone besides the Twins get him.

Matt Vasgersian (sp) was talking about Gardenhire and Bill Smith having a pretty high-level discussion before the game tonight. Hopefully it wasn't too much about that.

Don't worry, the Twins won't give up any real talent for Lee. Nobody has ever given up any legit talent for him (I think every prospect that's been traded for Lee is in the Minors right now, putting up sub-par numbers)

Is Joe Mauer moving to 3b in 2012?

Nope, I think Santana will be better than him. Target Field is going to just destroy Mauer's power numbers.

What's up with Target Field? I was under the impression that the ballpark was built for left hand hitters.

Just thinking about this again, as we have a similar problem with the Cell. Isn't it true that when hitters come to the Cell that, in general, their batting averages go down while their power numbers increase?

Maybe, since Target Field was built for lefties, their mindset changes and it affects their swing.

Mauer's an opposite field hitter. His power is to the opposite field and up the middle. He very rarely pulls his home runs. So that short porch in right doesn't help him as much as Morneau and Kubel.

That was supposedly the case. But, as is the case with other parks, nobody knows how a place will play until they have games there for a while and can see how the ball carries, and it does not carry AT ALL up there.

Nothing of huge importance to add here, but I'm taking my niece to her very first Sox game tomorrow night. Kinda feels as exciting as when I went to my very first Sox game... way back in 1979! You know, we rip on some of the players, we rip on Ozzie and Kenny, and anyone else who pisses us off... but the bottom line is that we're SOX FANS dammit. I was born and raised a Sox fan and I'll die a Sox fan (and they damn well better bury me in my jersey). I love the Bears and I love the Blackhawks, but there is something special about just being in the ballpark, breathing in the South Side air, listening to the roar of the crowd (or the curses, depending on how the game is going), and sitting back to watch the greatest team playing the greatest game.

THAT is what I am hoping to impart to my little niece-- the love of the Sox and the love of the game itself. There's nothing else like it in the world.

That's a neat story. Please write us a little recap of what the experience was like for both you and your niece.

How old is she? I'd be interested in if the modern kid is thrilled upon walking in the park, more worried about the stuff you can do outside of your seat and the food or what.

Let us know how much money you drop as well. You've got to immediately get her a hat, right?

Will do, Greg, and I think you'll all be proud of me because I actually got her a hat already! She's 10-- I wanted to wait until she was old enough to actually watch the game and understand what was going on, as opposed to being a squirmy kid who would lose interest.

Personally, I'm excited enough for both of us. I haven't been to a game since last September. It's going to be fun seeing things through the eyes of a 10 year old.

What a great uncle you are. I feel s***ty that I don't live in Chicago and missed out on those great moments of taking my nephews to games, etc. Oh well, got to put bread on the table.

Just out of curiosity what does an uncle do if his niece is 4 and has to go to the bathroom? You can't let her go in there alone. Do you get a stranger to take her in there? The questions that pop into one's brain.

Anyhow. Good luck at the game!!! Go Sox!
