If you only take into account the win expectancy when the closer comes in at the top or bottom of the 9th inning with nobody out, the only time where win expectancy is at 95% is when there is a 3 run lead.

 

When there is a 2 run lead in a similar situation, the win expectancy is 93.6%.

 

When there is a 1 run lead in a similar situation, the win expectancy is 80%.

 

Are we really going to quibble about 93.6 versus 95%? You also forget that the expectancy goes up as you get more outs as well.

As for that, in a one run game, the win expectancy goes up to 95% when there are two outs. In a two run game, it goes to 97% with one out. So yes, there is a 95% or greater win expectancy in just about every win that occurs. However, there's also a 50% win expectancy in every game as well, but that doesn't mean that each team will play .500 ball does it?

So far, Jenks has entered a situation like the one we are talking about 7 times, including the one he blew. In this case, they are on pace for 12 of these situations this year. Since this is an estimate, we can give or take two or three games. If you want to be liberal about it, 5 games even. Even in that case, it will not be 20 games and you really can't lose partial games.

No? Why are you assuming that I am?

 

If we do lose the division by one game, there's a lot of things we can look back at and point to as the reason why. No single person should get the blame unless there's overwhelming evidence that it was the case.

is starting a argument where there was none. How about you quit feeling like you have to defend every iota of Bobby Jenks being and start discussing other topics without feeling like you need to ask if people are subtly taking shots at Bobby. Or even better, being able to admit when Bobby f***s up and saying "You know what? He sucked tonite" and leave it at that.

 

There are overreactionary people that feel like a few bad outings dooms a player, and there are overreactionary people on the other end of the spectrum such as you that can never admit when a bad outing happens. Then there are the gray area people such as myself who can see the bigger picture and can understand that at some point either we have to s*** or get off the pot with jenks. The problem that I have with everything you have been saying is that everyone that doesnt worship the ground that Jenks walks on(such as yourself) is grouped into one big "insane messageboard people" list by you. If you havent noticed, Ozzie is starting to get a bit queasy with his closer as well and the message is out there that if he cannot get it done, there are two other big arms in the bullpen that can.

You question everybody that has anything to say about Bobby, everytime, without fail. Just accept the fact that even though the guy was on a World Series winning team, he is NOT ABOVE REPROACH.
