Joel
Chicago White Sox: Now just two games in back of Kansas City, the White Sox would like very much to add another starting pitcher. Tops on their list is Jeff Suppan -- who, if a poll were taken today -- may well be America's most talked about man. Teddy Greenstein of the Chicago Tribune reports that general manager Kenny Williams has been working the phones and is still very much in the trader mode in the weeks following his deals for Roberto Alomar and Carl Everett. IlliniKrush
I wouldn't mind nabbing Suppan, depending on what we'd have to give up, of course However since there seems to be a big demand for him, the price might be higher than we'd like
southsider2k5
Like I have said before with as few starts as we need out of our 5th starter, I would just assume hold onto our minor leaguers and use someone like Dan Wright as the starter, and then the long man out of the pen, when he isn't starting. Soxplosion
Go and get Suppan. Im tired of seeing Wright, Porzio or whoever starting every fifth day...
rafacosta
Suppan for s*** prospects, i want, but if they want take Cotts, Reed or players like this no way... But i think he wont come so cheap cecause a lot of teams want Suppan and who paid the most wil get him.
Soxplosion
Cotts isnt that good. He has horrible control at AA. Pitchers like that dont turn into decent MLBers...
LDF
i just got done reading espn insider, what i came away with is that balt is really playing hardball in the ponson trade front. they are really not running scared. i sometime wonder if they are expecting too much. next is cincy, first they gave away williamson and now they are playing hardball with the rest of the pitchers. i think they realize that maybe they really don't have to rush and get rid of the pitchers, but they can do it in the offseason as well. those are my thoughts. SweetJfour
I'd like to see them get another starting pitcher as well, but I don't think you need a pitcher of Suppan's stature. Especially if this price is too high.
Rex Hudler
Cotts isnt that good. He has horrible control at AA. Pitchers like that dont turn into decent MLBers... winninguglyin83
used to look forward to the nights when Suppan started for the Royals against the Sox. he's wayyyyyy overpriced if he brings more than a marginal pitching prospect. If the Pirates ask for Cotts, Reed, Wing or Malone, hang up the phone
IlliniKrush
That kinda scared me, but it seems like Rex knows alot of the Barons so ill take his word for it. Totally agree, i look to you minor league experts for the majority of my sox prospects info, so i'll go with Rex here

Rex Hudler
That kinda scared me, but it seems like Rex knows alot of the Barons so ill take his word for it. Thanks Tony........ I've been wrong before, but I am also smart enough to know that you can tell a lot by watching a player and you can also learn a lot by looking into numbers and not just taking them at face value. The perfect examples of that are Arnie Munoz and Mark Buehrle.... Munoz has a 6.20 ERA in AAA..... But he also has a 4.04 ERA since April 15. I would much rather have Arnie, who struggled in 3 outings in the first two weeks of the season, over a guy who has just been bad all year. If you just look at his numbers, you have no way of seeing that. If you just look at Mark Buehrle's numbers you see a 9-10 record with 4.21 ERA. Pretty damned average. But if you know how Mark's season has gone you think that Mark was just bad in the first half of the season. Look into his numbers and you will see that really all Mark had was a bad May and one bad outing in April. Mark's ERA for May was 7.16 and he was 0-4. In April Mark was 2-3 with a 3.92 ERA even with one horrendous outing against Cleveland and very little run support. In June and July, he was 6-2 with a 3.49 ERA. The point is, Mark Buehrle is not representative of a 9-10 record with a 4.21 ERA. Digging into one's numbers can tell a lot. It can also take a lot of time. aboz56
Cotts isnt that good. He has horrible control at AA. Pitchers like that dont turn into decent MLBers... He's not that good? His numbers are downright filthy and he started the futures game? If that's not good, I don't know what is.

Chisoxfn
used to look forward to the nights when Suppan started for the Royals against the Sox. he's wayyyyyy overpriced if he brings more than a marginal pitching prospect. If the Pirates ask for Cotts, Reed, Wing or Malone, hang up the phone I'd be willing to give up Malone. I'd prefer Malone going in a package to land Ponson. I'd play hardball with the Orioles and I think they've got most GM's to sour and at the last second I'd come in with an offer and say take it or leave it. Ponson isn't a short term acquisition, he's a long term one too.

BlackSox
I agree with Chisoxfn. I'd deal Malone for the right guy, too. The other three, probably not.
