"Andruw Jones is said to be in the best shape he's been in for a decade. This could wind up being the best $500,000 the White Sox ever spent."

That's great if we're doing a triathlon but it's not helping him at the plate.

That's a good question, and one that's impossible to answer.

Well even if what you're saying is true, they wouldn't make it that obvious. They'd probably wait a week or so, and then cut him. I hope what you're saying isn't true though, else everybody should be fired. You can't be f***ing around like that in the middle of a race.

lol well he DID get us a few wins early in the season, thus keeping us from blowing up the team. maybe that's worth $500K?

No kidding. It' snot like his jersey is the hottest selling Sox item out there and we owe it to him and the fans.

Haha we're a game out of first just after the 4th of July, and this is the pregame discussion. We have to be the most negative fanbase ever.

HAHA. We just want the best for our team. We know we can do better than Kotsay and Jones.

Probably a mixture of both really. This thread also shows the classic difference between Cubs and White Sox fans, and why we chose the side that we did. :headbang

I was at the game last night, and there was a lot of booing for Andruw Jones. I was proud of the fans for that. This isn't a shot at greg, as even I excused Jenks for being rusty. However, there was a ton of tension in the stadium during the 8th inning, even prior to Threets coming in. Hell, the PA didn't even have Jenks music ready to go. It was like when Wild Thing entered the game for the Indians in Major League 2.

or the smartest

Probably both. This is simultaneously the most intelligent and most negative fan board I've been to. Love it!

There are just a billion reasons to worry about everything in baseball, and I think we make a pretty exhaustive analysis of the team, so we're neurotically worried all the time. What's not to love about that?

I'm almost more proud to hear of the 8th inning tension. I think between the layoff he had and it being a non save spot, everybody could feel potential trouble on the way when Jenks came in. I'm generally not a fan of booing your own players either, but Jones is a rare case that actually deserves it.

In all fairness... the guy probably would have some decent numbers if he had gotten more playing time and more at bats. If he were the everyday starter, his line would probably look a lot different. Maybe he'd be better served by getting DFAd and latching on to a team not in the race that can afford to give him more playing time... like the Orioles or the Pirates or Indians.

So true on all counts. Posters here just won't tolerate you if you're not knowledgable, it's a great checks and balances system in that regard.

He was getting a good amount of playing time and then he forgot how to hit.

I do not think it is fair ot boo Jones. He is making $500,000. He should sit on the bench and play maybe once a week as a 4th or 5th outfielder. It is not his fault Guillen thinks everyone needs a couple of days off a week. The White Sox were off last Thursday.

By John Barone / MLB.com

Scoring off J.J. Putz is rather difficult these days.

Actually, it's downright impossible.

The White Sox setup man has not allowed a run over his past 19 appearances dating back to May 14, a span of 20 innings that marks the longest active scoreless streak in the Major Leagues.

Opponents have hit .119 (8-for-67) during the dominant stretch from the 33-year-old right-hander, who ranks among the American League's top relievers with five wins and a 1.74 ERA.

Major league 4 just may happen. If and when they do it, they are pretty much pretending like 3 never happened, and they are hoping to bring back the main core.

How can you forget 3 happened? Nothing says Major League like the Buzz beating the Twins, Scott Bakula, and downtown Anderson. The good thing about a Major League 4 with the main core though is none of those guys are too old to be playing baseball nowadays.

The White Sox have two of the most valuable relievers in baseball in Putz and Thornton. Thornton leads all of the AL in reliever WAR (second in all of baseball, only to Jonathan Broxton). Putz is 10th.

Really?

Really.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If you were to erase thronton's outing on june 8th against the tigers, in which he gave up five earned runs in 1/3rd of an inning, his ERA would be sitting at a cool 1.58 compared to 2.86.
There's 2 reasons Andruw Jones is still around....399 and 400
While I know that won't sell tickets, Guillen definitely has a loyalty to Jones from his Atlanta days so I can believe that this factors in. OneyRoberto is always tweeting about how his family is out to dinner with Jones. He even got all puffy chested in April about how well Jones was doing - "See Ozzie knows what he's doing!"
