ChiliIrishHammock24
MLB Network says that he might be on the block for the Mariners. I think Doug Fister would be a nice addition to this rotation that would not cost Kenny a whole lot, and can be a very quality arm for us. Fister is a 26-year-old, 6'8" righty who does not strike out very many people, but has very good control. He sort of sounds like a right-handed Mark Buehrle with his fastball that tops out at about 91, and relies on his command to make best use of his FB, change, and curveball. 2010 stats.... 3.50 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, 90 IP, 86 H, 6 HR, 17 BB, 41 K Thoughts on Fister? fathom
I'm sure you'd come up with a great nickname for him.
bighurt4life
His GO/AO is 1.39 and only 6 hr's in 14 GS this season, sounds like the type of guy who could succeed for us. I live in the NW and so end up watching a lot of Mariner's games because that's all that's on so I have seen him pitch a few times this year, I've never been super impressed by his stuff but I like his mound presence, demeanor, and the pace he plays at. A lot like Buerhle in many ways.

A lot like Buerhle in many ways. Sounds good. Would be nice to get him, and like I said, I doubt he would come at a high cost, or at least a lot less than Haren would. Quin
If it's any significant prospect, he cost too much.

I disagree, unless Morel, Hudson, and Viciedo aren't what you consider our ONLY significant prospects. witesoxfan
2.30 ERA at Safeco, 5.74 ERA on the road. A fastball that doesn't reach 90. A BABIP of .268. K/9 less than 5. Terrible in 3 of his 4 starts since coming back from injury (and surprise, surprise, the only outing he didn't suck in was his outing at Safeco). Fister is no better than a league average pitcher who has been aided by pitching in one of the most pitcher friendly environments in all of baseball. witesoxfan
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 10:29 AM) We'll get to see him first hand. We got to see him last year too in his first career start. I recall watching the game, and seeing a guy who was throwing 89 MPH shut down the Sox. 6 IP, 1 H, 4 BB, 4 K. He's a decent back end of the rotation guy, but he can be disguised as a #3 starter in Seattle because of the park - the Jarrod Washburn effect. Knackattack
If we trade Hudson for a bat, and Fister comes extremely cheap, then it's a good idea. Otherwise, not so much.
witesoxfan
QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 04:07 PM) If we trade Hudson for a bat, and Fister comes extremely cheap, then it's a good idea. Otherwise, not so much. Giving Torres a shot would be worth not having to give anybody up. Fister is not a good bet to continue any semblance of success outside of Safeco. Kalapse
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 04:07 PM) Fister is not a good bet to continue any semblance of success outside of Safeco. Hence why the Mariners would be open to trading a 26 year old starting pitcher with a 3.50 ERA, 1.144 WHIP who is under team control for FIVE more years. They're selling high on an asset they don't fully believe in for the long term.
