fathom
Anyone stop to think that Sox didn't acquire Haren cause it would have been too much money to have him in the rotation along with the other main 4 next season?
chw42
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 05:58 PM) I really hope there’s an ultimatum here that Ozzie sinks or swims with the DH idea. I’d hate to see his lineups getting run out there for the next few years. I just had a Facebook convo with people trying to defend him for it. I've never talked to more boneheaded Sox fans in my life. The constant thinking that Thome is now a backup, even with a .920 OPS, and that Thome isn't on the team anymore so why are we even talking about this drove me f***ing crazy. Those same fans probably listen to the Score and think that what's being said on there justifies their belief about the DH-by-committee.

BearSox
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 05:58 PM) Anyone stop to think that Sox didn't acquire Haren cause it would have been too much money to have him in the rotation along with the other main 4 next season? Maybe, but KW alluded to trying to get Roy Halladay in the offseason and giving us "one of the best rotations ever" (or said something to that effect). So unless he was just saying that or would have included Danks or Floyd in the deal for Halladay, I doubt the money was the issue. I think KW is going for Dunn or Fielder foremost, and if that backfires, we'll see LaRoche/Scott and a long man like you stated earlier.
chw42
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 06:00 PM) Those same fans probably listen to the Score and think that what's being said on there justifies their belief about the DH-by-committee. I felt like I was talking to worse versions of Greg. What's worse is that they made me out to be like Greg, thinking I wanted everybody on the 05 team back because I said Thome and Podsednik would be upgrades over Kotsay and Pierre on this team right now. I feel like I've lost 20 points on my baseball IQ. Edited July 25, 2010 by chw42
whitesoxbrian
Speaking of Pods, why not try and get him? I'm sick of watching Pierre, although he did get on twice today. He seems to get thrown out all the time stealing bases, and he NEVER hits the ball hard. It's pretty sickening. Vizquel Beckham Rios Konerko Quentin Pierzynski Ramirez Jones/Kotsay Pierre

Balta1701
QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 06:54 PM) If that's the case the trade looks better for Arizona. Still a great deal for the Angels though. If it's Conger then that's at least a passable deal and it could be very good depending on that pitcher. Halladay would probably for us have still been a 1 year rental. He'd be a FA at the end of this year if not for the extension.
Balta1701
QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 25, 2010 -> 06:58 PM) Anyone stop to think that Sox didn't acquire Haren cause it would have been too much money to have him in the rotation along with the other main 4 next season? Well, considering that it'd have left us with 0 money to spend next year, no 5th starter, no 1b, no catcher, no closer, no setup men, and no DH, yeah, I'd say that's a distinct possibility. 1b: Gartrell 2b: Beckham 3b: Morel SS: Ramirez LF: Pierre CF: Rios RF: Quentin DH: Jones/Kotsay (assuming both are resigned for $500k) C: Hell, I dunno. Blackwood? Peavy, Floyd, D1, Buehrle, Haren Closer: Santos. Bullpen; Torres, Thornton, Threets, Linebrink, then someone else from our minors. The Beast
Why would the White Sox re-sign Kotsay or Jones? They aren't anything too special. Is JR wanting to slash payroll again or is there further economic downturn that I'm not aware about that will hinder the Sox from being a competitive looking ballclub next year? greg775
Awful....we sucked on this road trip. Ozzie letting Jones face Wuertz when he had Omar and Kotsay on the bench was one of the top 3 bonehead managerial decisions by him on the season. Not saying you are wrong, but I'd rather have you as a pinch hit option than Omar and Kotsay.
whitesoxbrian
If that's your lineup for next year- barf. Bring back PK to DH (and play some 1st) and give AJ 1 more season, unless they feel Castro and Flowers can split time.

greg775
I did not get to see the game today. Judging from the box score, Hudson did not pitch well. What is the problem? Do you guys think he has the great great upside or are you concerned?

He's struggling the same way most rookie pitchers struggle. Some never overcome those struggles. The good ones do.

greg775
See the Soxnet.net game wrapup for a summary. Hey I read that. Nice stuff. You should get paid to write that. That, actually, might be a future model for game stories in dying "newspapers" I'd think. Nice amount of commentary to go with what happened. Good stuff. I need to remember to read that. It answered all my ?s on Hudson. Interesting perspective on AJP as well. I kind of wish the Sox brass would think about it and say that we are basically where we are where we started the season, tied for the division lead ... and make a couple moves so from this point forward maybe we can steal the division. I don't want us to get rid of Beckham, Viciedo, Hudson or Flowers though, so I may be asking for something impossible to pull off.

If KW can get a deal done to improve this team without giving up those guys or Morel, then on that I have total confidence it will happen. The problem is...the other guys just aren't that interesting to most teams, and the guys we could get are salary dump kind of players. KW has pulled surprises before, but I wouldn't be mad with him doing a small Kotsay replacement level move.

The Royals would gladly give us somebody like Jose Guillen for Flowers straight up I bet, but I don't want to do that and I bet most Sox fans wouldn't want to do that. I bet KW would be a lot more willing to trade our top prospects for help had Peavy not gotten hurt. I could be way off base.
