Going to the game tonight with a Mariners fan (husband) - I hope to see a good game. :)

Leave him home or risk him him being humliated and dominated. Unless you are into that kind of thing :P

According to Greg Walker, we are a great fastball hitting team, and weak when it comes to change-ups.

He couldn't be anymore right.

I was surprised that we hit Fister last time out, we've had lots of issues with him before.

Vargas has actually pitched well this year. I remember the Marlins were once pretty high on him. Judging by his basic lines, he's really only had two bad starts this year.

Agreed. Vargas if very underrated. Hopefully Buehrle is on his game because Vargas is the type of pitcher that gives us trouble. Should be a good one. :gosoxretro:

Probably just a little rest.

He hasn't had anything extra in terms of rest since the AS break and went 0/yesterday. Can't hurt to rest his legs a bit more today. That's what the rotating DH was supposed to do.

I wonder why Rios is DHing. At least Andruw is solid in CF too.

Ozzie's plan for the rotating DH. Keep a player's bat in the lineup while resting him from the field. This is why he wanted Kotsay and Jones. Good defenders in the field while the starters rest.

Well the reason I ask is because I figure if Rios needs rest, may as well not even play him, put Viciedo at DH, and then Vizquel at 3B. That improves our defense all around, and we all know how important defense is when Buehrle is pitching.

It's only a good plan if you have capable offensive players, which we really don't have in Kotsay and Jones.

Jones has an OPS+ of 98 on the season and a .753 OPS. Against LH pitchers in particular, he has an .853 OPS. Furthermore, he's been a plus fielder in both CF and RF, despite limited time there (he's been a negative fielder in LF, but he's played a total of 10 games there, as opposed to 35 in RF).

Yes, he's all or nothing, but he's pretty much been exactly the kind of guy you'd want on your bench and rotating through the DH as the right-handed partner. Strong on defense, and especially against LHP, not a liability with the bats.
