Chisoxfn
And no, I'm not talking about striking out the side, although I certainly wouldn't complain if you did that from here on out. But the agression in which you pitched with yesterday should be done everyday from here on out. You clearly still have the stuff and velocity, but instead of focusing on your best stuff, you work more as if you were a starting pitcher trying to utilize multiple pitches and being pretty. It don't have to be pretty, you are a power closer. Utilize that nasty hook and power fastball. You really don't need to out-think hitters, they can't touch you when you are throwing those two pitches with even mediocre command. Last night was vintage Jenks. It reminded me of 2005. He was upper 90's on velocity and than just snapped some lethal curves.

The thing with Bobby is that when he gets little rest or isn't really pissed and pitching for his job, he's not going to throw 99. There's days where he throws 92-93 and that's when he gets hit hard. I think he realized that he needed more pitches due to this and his inability to be consistent with velocity may have something to do with his health and fitness (endurance does have a lot to do with your body weight...). Im pretty sure Bobby is worried about his future, because he knows the Sox wont pay$10 mill a year for him. Hes trying to stay healthy by not throwing 99 mph every time, or throwing his curve which apparently is really stressful on his arm. He was trying to be like Charlie Sheen in Major League 2, learn some less stressful pitches to keep the longevity of his career going. Thats all fine and dandy, but if your results diminish it wont matter how healthy you are.

When he had the last hitter at two strikes, I said to my wife, "He's gotta throw the hook." And he did, and that hook was like watching a video of 2005. Harry Chappas
Or maybe he told Cooper to get lost I am throwing hard. Jason he appeared to be throwing more a of a slider and not the big curve but I could be wrong. he had something nice that was moving at around 92 Whatever the case if that Bobby shows up nightly and Putz has his stuff......ouch I would still like to know his day/night splits

bigruss
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 29, 2010 -> 12:51 PM) Great post. A 99 MPH fastball and a breaking pitch can be hard to beat If he can do that consistently throughout the rest of the year, it will be absolutely amazing for the Sox. Buerhle struggled through 5 last night, then the bullpen comes in and throws 4 stellar innings, just a joy to watch, especially Putz. I just don't know how people come up with some of this stuff. When a pitcher or anybody tries to stay healthy, that's when they immediately get hurt. I think Bobby has been a pretty good closer for a long time now, though you don't need to remind me people that you disagree. I am well aware of your disagreement with me on Jenks. I get it. I just strongly disagree with this stuff about him wanting to "stay healthy." He's kinda fat to be worried about that. I might be wrong, but I could have sworn someone posted something one time this year from Jenks commenting along the lines of the curve ball putting stress on his arm and he is worried due to his contract situation. Or something like that.
