Frank_Thomas
His hands are not tied with Dunns contract, loves the guy and doesn't need to trade him and can hold out for a good package. Great clubhouse guy, fans love him. 3-4 teams have serious interest in him. Per Rizzo on MLb trade deadline special.

maggsmaggs
QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 04:53 PM) Mentioned they are looking for power on the corners, SP, and to solidfy their defense. Not necessarily in a Dunn deal. It's unfortunate that they have zero interest in Morel with Zimmerman.

Of course Dunn is gone after the year. But credit Rizzo, he is saying the right things to keep the upper hand. KW probably has a deal if he wants to include Viciedo, which I am sure he is reluctant to do.

pktmotion
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 04:44 PM) Seriously guys? This is the worst trade KW has ever made? This has been a terrible deadline? I've seen several people mention it so far. Um, this guy has way better stuff than Hudson does, is still relatively young, has experience pitching in the AL Central, has experience being in a pennant race, and is under control for another year for decent money. Now I know what people mean when they say the Sox have overvalued Hudson. The way I think of him is the way people thought of Jeff Bajanaru. Yes trading a SP who's under team control for 6 more years for a SP who's marginally better, cost 10x more, and is only under team control for another year; qualifies as a sh**ty move. More so than the Swisher trades. In the 1st Swisher trade no prospect came close to Hudson's value now(losing Sweeney sucked but we didn't completely overpay); the 2nd trade, we did get screwed return-wise, but at least we were dumping Swisher's increasing salary that helped us re-sign Floyd, trade for Peavy, and acquire Rios. In this trade we took on ~$10M in salary for a minimal upgrade. And please don't give me the "he's young" talk, he's under team control for another year and guess who is agent is....Boras. Don't talk about how someone is a great young project when they're paid like a proven veteran.

I don't. 2B seems like a much easier position to play, so why move him out of 3B, where he is very good? Sure, he may not have typical 3B power, but I'd rather have a great defensive 3B down there than a good hitter who can't field.
The Beast
QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 05:02 PM) Bernstein is such an arrogant jerk. "No! He's bad! He's bad now! Noooo! He's baaaaaadddd wahhhhhh!" Obviously the caller was an idiot (when calling about Carlos Lee) but I wanted to smack whoever was talking on the show at the time. SoxFan562004
if callers are calling in and throwing around the idea that the White Sox screwed up in not retaining Lee than any host has a right to snap. First, I like Carlos, he has been a good hitter in his career, but the White Sox don't win the WS with him IMO, and I'm not a huge Pods fan either... beyond that, look at the crazy long-term deal he got, Sox got out of the Carlos Lee business at the right time. Jordan4life_2007
QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 30, 2010 -> 04:49 PM) Ken_Rosenthal deal of their liking. #Rays can't be sure Dunn will succeed as DH after failed expriment w Burrell. #Nationals might be stuck. #Yankees #MLB 4 minutes ago Ken_Rosenthal Berkman to #Yankees could put #Nationals in bind with Dunn. Nats lose big potential suitor. #WhiteSox can hold out for (MORE) #Rays #MLB lol@that pathetic reasoning for not being sold on Dunn. That's actually beyond pathetic. And Dan Bernstein is one of my idols. It's Boers that I can't stand.

What he didn't realize is that Carlos Lee is getting old and regressing. Plus, he is owed around $35 million over the next two years. You're asking for disaster by saying he should be traded here. greg775
Ugh, hearing that Yanks won't give up any premium prospects to get Berkman really frustrates me. How do the Yankees have this power over teams? Why couldn't we get salary dump Jackson w/out giving up our No. 1 pitching prospect? f***.

I have no idea how other teams rate him, but just because he's #1 in a bad system doesn't make him worth more than 5-10 in strong systems. Plus, he is owed around $35 million over the next two years. You're asking for disaster by saying he should be traded here. And that is what Bernstein should have said. The caller was indeed an idiot, but the caller is not the guy that usually has a microphone in front of his mouth. Bernstein didn't have the info in front of his face and so he stalled by saying "he's baaaadd...he's baaadddddd..." long enough til he did get the numbers. Then when he did get the numbers, the guy asked for Lee's numbers last year, and Bernstein conveniently failed to answer him.
