As I said back in July.....

I will welcome having Manny bat on this team, but I can't say I have ever been a fan of the guy personally. I think he represent everything bad about baseball. Steroids, laziness, being a clown, selfish, ect. However, I can't deny his skills and I can't help but overlook his personality if it means we can make a push for the playoffs, in addition to the tickets and jersey sales he will create.

I feel the same well I felt when the Cowboys got Terrell Owens. Hated the player, but couldn't deny the skills.

Or perhaps..."Watch Manny inject some life into the White Sox!"

We become the Yankees when we sign a known cheater because it may help us win. As a 46-year-old lifelong Sox fan who grew up listening to my grandfather's stories of Babe Ruth playing at the old palace, I implore Kenny Williams not to bring Manny Ramirez to the White Sox. As I posted in another thread a week or two ago (and that's saying something because I don't post very much), I consider Manny as the poster child for all of major league baseball's ills: greed, steroids, lazy, selfish. No debate there's blame for the steroid era abounding, but when you're injecting a needle into your ass or having someone else do it for you, it's wrong and you know it. So the blame starts with the players who did it. I honestly would rather miss the playoffs without Manny than be in them with him. If the White Sox bring him in I'm not sure I can call myself a fan of this team...and just typing that makes me feel as though I'm losing an appendage.

And I would never watch the Bulls if Lebron came here either.

The important question is then can Pauly play the entire remainder of the season without a day off? Unless Teahen can play 1B?

Teahen can. You can DFA kotsay because of Teahen's LH bat. Teahen can also spell CQ in RF if need be. He becomes the supersub along with Lilli.

Acquiring Ramirez isn't just claiming him. Once Manny is claimed, there still must be a deal worked out. Considering Ramirez will be a Type A free agent who will probably get at least a two-year deal somewhere if he decides to play next season, the Dodgers would likely offer him arbitration (unless the risk of him accepting the offer is one the club is simply unwilling to take) and recoup a supplemental first-round pick plus either a first- or second-round pick if he were to sign elsewhere. They'll expect a trade offer that beats the promise of two first-round picks, and won't trade him if they can't get it.

There is zero chance that anyone risks him accepting arbitration.

Do you really think they would offer him arbitration?

The "Manny could be claimed by the Sox" article appeared on the White Sox's facebook page and there were a bunch of people shouting it down "No!" "Never!" "He's an asshole!" I just don't understand. You're looking for baseball players to be role models, there's your first problem. I bet all these people loved A.J. Pierzynski over the past few years though, and he is a first-class asshole. Win me ballgames and then I'll tell you if I care about your personality.

I see Dodgers just letting him go, as he already said this is his last season in LA. Manny won't be playing for the Dodgers in 2011. Dodgers being out of it do not need Manny Ramirez and his salary. KW won't give up prospect to get Manny, maybe a low level throw in, IMHO.

The only way KW throws in a player is if the Dodgers throw in money. He'd be happy to claim him, and the Dodgers flat out don't want or need him right now. They need the $4 million more. If they're going to threaten to pull him back to get a legit player out of us, then we don't need him that badly.

Agreed, however I do not understand, what are the Dodgers waiting for?

Alex Rios had full no trade protection in 2009. Phillips continues to show why he is an ex-GM.

One of many reasons. I think it's funny that ESPN replaced him with J.P. Ricciardi.

First of all, they couldn't put ManRam on waivers until he was off the DL.

Secondly...if they can get him in a game or two to prove he's healthy, it could increase the chances of someone actually claiming him.

Third, they might not want to admit their season is over yet, we are all flat out guessing on their financial straits.
