lostfan
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 28, 2010 -> 12:19 AM) The Dodgers are about the same amount of games out of the playoff hunt as we are, yet they want to dump Manny. Why, oh why, is that? Because he's not the kind of guy you want on your team for any extended period of time. We better not give up anybody good for this aging slacker. But he won't be on the team for any extended period of time. The last few years he's produced big in the playoffs.
dmbjeff
or could it be to save themselves $4 million dollars with the owners going through a divorce? he will be on the white sox very shortly.
greg775
QUOTE (lostfan @ Aug 28, 2010 -> 04:21 AM) But he won't be on the team for any extended period of time. The last few years he's produced big in the playoffs. Well, we better not sign him for next year, then. Cause it was Mannywood and all happiness in LA last season and now it seems they can't get rid of him quick enough (after they try to rob us for some good players and not just one player to be named stiff). Kalapse
There's also an enormous difference between 3.5 back, 1 team ahead of you and no one in your rear view mirror and 4 back, 4 teams ahead of you and 2 in your rear view mirror. Each night we just have to hope the Twins lose, the Dodgers on the other hand have to worry about the Phillies, Cardinals, Giants and Rockies AND are tied in the loss column with the Marlins and are 2 up on the Mets. They're fighting an uphill battle for a playoff spot, we're a series sweep + and extra win/Twins loss away from a first place tie. AND they have 4 starting OF and no DH position or position flexibility to get them all ABs. With Furcal out Theroit is thrust into the leadoff spot on days that Manny starts. ThunderBolt
Kalapse is right. The Dodgers, for all their foibles, are actually dealing from a position of (relative) strength here. They’re having an issue where too much flexibility is actually getting in the way of Torre putting a lineup out there. So, for multiple reasons the Dodgers are better off with Manny gone. Frank_Thomas
Manny was held out of tonights lineup because of matchup reasons. This is the second day in a row and now Dodgers beat writer tweeted this: dylanohernandez Torre said that because he might want to start the same lineup from tonight's game, #Manny could sit again tomorrow. #Dodgers 10 minutes ago Pretty weird/suspicious that Torre would announce this tonight. Even more so cause they Dodgers need wins and Manny would be a key piece to that in their estimation. Something is fishy, real fishy with this Whole thing. I'm starting to think Manny wants out and is holding out to get moved. Maybe not, I may be reading too much into it. Manny has been known to piss off others in the dugout, and it's possible that he and Torre aren't getting along. (I haven't followed the Dodgers at all this year, so I had no idea.) Regardless, if Manny is being held out for a reason other than injury, I'm pretty sure that he'll be in a Sox uni by the middle of next week. greg775
Sounds from these recent developments that Torre despises Manny and Manny wants out. This guy should play for every team for 2 months and just move around baseball. I guess one month of him will be fine as long as they don't steal some good players from us which obviously they are trying to do. Why can't teams just dump players to the white sox? Why is it always this drama of them trying to steal us blind like Dunn???
bigruss
Bring Manny in and win this f***in division. greg775
It's already pretty much too late, big russ. The p**** Twins are way ahead simply cause we can't beat them head to head. If it's close when we go to Minnie for that next 3 game series, it's heartbreak time again. We can't beat them.

The Sox are done in Minneapolis this season but do have 3 left at USCF. I think you are a little off the deep end here, but one thing you couldn't be more correct about IMO is the head to head. Its what has killed the Sox. They are 5-10 against them. If they were just 7-8, they would be in first place. If they were 10-5 against Minnesota, USCF would be jammed every night and the team would be preparing for the playoffs right now.

Many here talk about Fuentes like he is second coming of Mariano Rivera. Didn't he blow a save against the Sox earlier in the season? Fuentes is a good relief pitcher (making way too much money) but let's not overreact.
Springfield Soxfan
Do the Dodgers owe Manny $4 million this year and $3 million next year in deferred money as well, or does the $4 million that is owed take into account next year's deferred money? Basically, is Manny owed $7 million total or $4 million, if it's 7 we have no chance.

It is $4M total. ~$1M for this season and ~$3M in deferred money, which (from what Balta wrote last night) has to be put aside this season.
