iamshack
QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 07:53 PM) If he had, I would of said. If and when Manny goes unclaimed or is claimed by the White Sox, I want a formal apology for all the garbage your talking. Read my posts. I'm of the opinion we wil claim Manny. Balta1701
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 09:52 PM) You just answered the question. So if the Sox are willing to pay his entire contract, why did they not offer to do it before the deadline? Its really not KWs style to mess around with lowball offers, especially with the deadline rapidly approaching. The only way they claim him is if they have something worked out with LA in which LA would guarantee they wouldn't just award him the contract and have a deal worked out. The question was whether or not the Dodgers were going to sell at all or not. If the Dodgers were wanting to Shed Salary, the Sox would have helped them out. If the Dodgers wanted to add prospects, the Sox weren't going to do that and absorb a salary hit. The Dodgers made their choice. They held Manny and added $7 million or so in salary with the guys they added, despite multiple reports of insane financial issues in LAD due to the McCourt divorce. The dodgers aren't selling for money, and the Sox aren't dumping Viciedo for a 1.5 month rental on the DL and off the juice.
AWhiteSoxinNJ
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 08:53 PM) You say that as though the empty stadiums in places like Pittsburgh, KC, Cleveland, Florida, Oakland, and Toronto are anything new. Only team drawing decent crowds are New York and Philadelphia or when Strasburg is on the mound. Attendance is down across the board. Look it up. And that's great. No one is disputing that he has a source. What is obnoxious is when he insists on things like we should no longer have discussions because he is Jesus or Scott Boras. He has been jumping up and down for 3 days now insisting we should just stop typing and bow down and thank him for bringing his wisdom to the table. Many teams won't touch Manny with a 10 ft pole. No one is disputing that. The question is whether you take the risk of some team going rogue and claiming him. I think we need him too much to risk it. Buehrle>Wood
QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 01:55 AM) Only team drawing decent crowds are New York and Philadelphia or when Strasburg is on the mound. Attendance is down across the board. Look it up. What is our time frame here? Out of all 30 teams, average attendance is down by 300 people per game, and we haven't even hit the chases yet. Big whoop. 13 clubs attendance have actually gone higher.

The dodgers aren't selling for money, and the Sox aren't dumping Viciedo for a 1.5 month rental on the DL and off the juice. If you want a player and are willing to pay $6-7 million for him, why would you only offer $1 million? You said if they offered to pick up the rest of contract you feel they would have landed him. Since they didn't land him, chances are they aren't willing to pick that up. It makes zero sense not to offer your best package on July 31 if you are willing to pay that same price sometime in August. I see no reason a team will claim Manny and risk the financial obligation. He's been hurt 3 times this year, and his numbers while very nice aren't MVP type.

Not really, as I know TV shares are way down, which will impact the amount of money they make in coming years. I don't really care about other teams though, but it seems like Sox are doing fairly well money wise.

I jumped down your throat because you keep posting the same one liners over and over. Take a lesson from Docsox24 if you want to learn how to handle having inside information. If your info is good, people will take notice. Don't try and stifle discussion with it.

Attendance is down across the board. Look it up. I have looked it up. Yes, average attendance is slightly down...because of big drops in NYM and Houston and cleveland. There are, by my count, 14 teams with attendance up this year, and 16 teams with attendance down.

I'd have to imagine the Sox are going to end up way up from last season? Should have really good crowds for a lot of our remaining home games, especially with the Yanks, Red Sox, and Twins on the schedule.

Dick Allen
According to their trainer,Manny is at least a week from playing. I wouldn't be surprised if he already cleared waivers. Why would a team risk taking on all that money without even knowing for sure his injury situation.
Balta1701
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 10:06 PM) I'd have to imagine the Sox are going to end up way up from last season? Should have really good crowds for a lot of our remaining home games, especially with the Yanks, Red Sox, and Twins on the schedule. The Sox are currently one of the teams down from last season. Attendance flat out sucked the first 2 months of the season. This pennant chase should rock it.

It's believable...but that's not the only revenue stream. The Sox have, as far as I can tell, already weathered the big drop in ad sales, I think other teams are probably similar. Teams still increased total salary expenditures last offseason, even if it was only a 1.8% jump.
