bigruss
QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 30, 2010 -> 02:15 PM) I agree there's joy in baseball and life. Forgive me for not applauding the team for acquiring a guy, who by all accounts, is a bum. A rich bum if that's possible. I hope he hits .400 for the month with 15 home runs and we beat out the Twins. I am not saying he can't excel. I just think he's a turd. You can polish a turd all you want, but a turd will always be a turd. This will not end well. But if he can bring us another WS title, great. I'll take it. I just want the Sox to use him for his ability and the fans to challenge him to excel. I'm not normally in favor of booing, but I hope we boo him on every out, and praise him when he gets a hit. Ramirez is one of the best right handed hitters, ever. I bet the very first reaction of Sox fans when he starts crushing homeruns at the Cell is jubilation. THere is no doubt that Ramirez is not an ideal citizen, but we're not building a team based on that, we're building one to win and Ramirez gives us a MUCH better chance to get to the playoffs. He accepted all that adulation in LA then when he tired of the city, s*** on his teammates and fans, which he will do here as well. Let's beat him to the punch. Demand he produce or boo his ass off the field before he does it to the Sox as he has other teams. Cmon quitter ... let's play ball. Lead us to the pennant big guy. bobryansson
Let's carry this to its logical extreme, just as a mind exercise. I am absolutely not minimizing the horrors of the soon-to-be mentioned individual to the completely-trivial-in-comparison level of cheating or quitting in a sport-as-entertainment. I am absolutely not raising the cheating/quitting transgressions to any higher level than to use them as evidence of, or lack thereof, a certain moral fiber that I would like to see in the sporting events I choose to watch as entertainment. If Hitler could hit the ball like Babe Ruth, would you be in favor of him being the DH for the White Sox? For those who say they'd not, yet are in favor of Manny doing so, where is the line of differentiation? The only reason he isn't a convicted felon is because baseball isn't releasing his drug tests from 2003 if you believe the reports. There could be a bunch of trafficing and using charges against him to do with that alone.

Don't watch sports if you base your moral values on millionaire athletes that play kids games for a living. Most of these guys are horrible people and/or ordinary people with much much more money, it shouldn't come as a shock. Honestly, what LBJ did is worse in my book than anything Manny did.
