Thrill Rides!!! Theme Parks and Carnivals!

Was at Six Flags yesterday and it made me think about what are the best thrill rides I have been on throughout my life. The American Eagle is just a classic that can never really be topped but I havent been on enough rides to say for sure really. I love the Raging Bull the most of all the rides there right now. It pretty much blurred my vision and made my legs tingle. LOL

 

I was at the one in Sandusky,OH a few years back and they had some unbelievable rides. One which I think was the tallest in the world at the time.

 

The classic Tilt O'Whirl was always one of my favorite rides although not scary, just one of the funnest to ride with your friends. Out of all the Carnival rides I would never ride the Zipper, that ride screamed screaching death and I will never take part in that.

 

There are so many parks and carnivals that I never been too and I would like to hear some of the stuff thats out there.

The Thunderbolt roller coaster at Kennywood in Pittsburgh is one of the best wooden coasters around.

That is the Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point, Sandusky OH. Opened in 2003. I moved to California in 2003. I moved to TN in 2009. I finally made in 2010.

 

There's one other thing like that in the world, I believe the other one is a foot or two taller.

 

The specs on that thing: it is a hydraulic pressure launch. No chain. You go 0 to 120 in under 3 seconds. You then rocket up a 420 foot hill with a 90 degree twist. You barely crest the hill, then free-fall 420 feet straight down the other side of the hill, with a 270 degree rotation, hitting 120 mph on the way down. The brakes are fully magnetic. The ride takes 17 seconds.

I got off that F***ing thing for the first time and it was like every ounce of adrenaline in my body had fired off and I was completely drained despite it only taking 15 seconds. At some point right around the time we started going up the hill I think I got the words "Holy s***" out of my mouth successfully.

Oh, and Cedar Point = my version of Heaven. Been going often since my dad took me at age 8 in 1989, and we hit the Magnum XL-200 the first year it opened, after at the time a 3 hour wait. Millennium Force, Magnum, Raptor, Maverick, Dragster, Wicked Twister, Mean Streak as a ridiculously pounding wooden roller coaster...God I love that place.

just went to Cedar Point a couple weeks back for the first time. Best roller coasters I've ever been on. And what an awesome view over Lake Erie.

back when I lived in Carbondale, some friends and my wife and daughter went to Holiday World because I scored 6 free tickets through my job. We all had no idea what it was, we just knew it was in Santa Claus, Indiana which was in the middle of nowhere. We were totally blown away by how fun and cheap the entire experience was, we stayed open to close and had an amazing time. They have(supposedly) two of the top 10 wood rollercoasters in the states, and they were really fun. Plus the waterpark was top notch.

Knotts Berry Farm here in California has one similar to Top Thrill it's just smaller and pretty f***ing intense. One day my girl and I will make the trip to Cedar Point. That park is always #1 in lists of best theme parks in the US.

 

other good coasters in California: Tatsu, Deja Vu (still f***s me up every time I ride it) Riddler's Revenge, and Goliath. All of those At the SoCal Six Flags (Magic Mountain)

 

Also, I hate old wooden coasters. I know a lot of people LOVE them, but they are rickety as s*** and hurt when I ride them haha

The Corkscrew at Cedar Point about killed me because they didn't snap my harness down far enough, so when it corkscrewed upside-down, I came up off of the seat by about 4 or 5 inches and hung in mid air.

When it comes to coasters, "tallest and fastest" usually doesn't translate to "best or most thrilling". Just about everyone I know thinks Raging Bull at Great America is the best thing there just because its the tallest. After the first drop (and only in the last row of the train at that) the ride is as tame as Whizzer. Batman or Iron Wolf will give you some forces though.

Thats El Toro. It's a new type of wooden coaster that rides just like a steel coaster because it's track is prefabricated. Words don't describe the ride it gives. (You can see Top Thrill Dragsters 30 foot taller cousin "Kingda Ka" on the left)

Best coaster hands down was the Texas Giant at Six Flags Over Texas. Unfortunately they're doing a major overhaul on it and it won't be open again until next year. I'm hoping they're not going to make any drastic changes to it. I also loved the Riverside Cyclone at (what is now) Six Flags New England but they really f***ed up the first drop.

 

In the meantime I'm a big fan of quite a few coasters; my most recent favorites are the Manta and the Kraken at Sea World Orlando and Speed... the Ride at the Sahara in Vegas.

I have to go see this thing now. No ride I've ever been on has made me feel an extreme adrenaline rush...minor ones, but nothing great. It's almost a curse.

 

My favorite coaster all around is Rock N' Roller Coaster at Disney's Hollywood Studios. Aerosmith blasting when going from 0 to 60 in 3 seconds in the dark and being unsure of everything makes it a blast.

 

The Raging Bull is quite fun too.

The other thing I'd say about Cedar point is that they have probably 7-8 different rides that, if you took them and put them in a different park...that ride would be the feature attraction at that park, but at Cedar Point, they can almost be walkons.

There was one at Cedar Point that was duplicated at Great America and was wowing people at Great America but was forgotten at Cedar Point because when in comparison to all the other coasters it was just decent.
