BrenBlackwood
Only run scored in the Bristol @ Burlington game was a HR by muh boy, Blackwood. Defensively he had 1 base stolen against him and 2 CS. Great job by Robert Young and Kevin Moran!!

chisoxfan09
JPN, did you ever do an AAP write up on Brent Morel while at Birmingham? Kid is sure scrappy and although he is 0-4 tonite he is above .300 and playing good solid D. Do you see a lot of upside and him cracking any top 100 prospect list next year (Especially after hitting well in AAA)? All this with a bad shoulder. He's definitely an impressive contact hitter and a vacuum at third base. He has a bright future in the majors and should be in many top 100 lists. I only got to see 2 months worth of him though. But he does not seem to have power but can hit for average. He struggled for a while when he got promoted but has made the transition well. I would rather see him next year than Teahan to be honest at the Cell.
SoxAce
Nice outing for Ryan Buch. Man Escobar is really adjusting well in AA. I'll say it before Dan throws it in my face.
OilCan
Maybe Morel can be our number 2 hitter next year? Especially since he hits on contact and if his glove is already mlb-caliber.
Balta1701
QUOTE (OilCan @ Aug 13, 2010 -> 01:19 PM) Maybe Morel can be our number 2 hitter next year? Especially since he hits on contact and if his glove is already mlb-caliber. Maybe if he keeps raking he earns a callup next September or if someone gets hurt before that. No way you pencil him in for a job going into ST, especially not if he has a surgery and rehab coming up.
Bruce_Blixton
Hi everyone, first let me thank all of you for forming such a comprehensive and detailed resource to keep up to date with the minor league system, it's one of the, if not THE best, fan-operated minor league forums around. So to you guys. Wanted to get your guy's opinion, with Escobar's sustained success so far in AA, would anyone else like to see him get a September call-up to get some one-on-one mentoring from Vizquel? I mean, what couldn't a slick fielding, switch-hitting SS learn from Omar, right?

The mentoring may indeed help, but even with his success in AA, I still get the feeling he's not nearly ready to hit big league pitching. So it may not be a good move just yet. I mean, what couldn't a slick fielding, switch-hitting SS learn from Omar, right? Welcome and that's a good question. I think Escobar's bat is so far from being Major League ready (even with the recent hot streak at AA). Escobar will likely be a non-roster invite next spring and that's when he can get his mentoring from Ozzie and if we still have Omar, him as well. I wouldn't call his success in AA sustained. He hasn't played 30 games yet. There's no rush with him, this is already beyond my most optimistic expectations of him.
Bruce_Blixton
Thanks for the replies, I agree that his bat is nowhere near being Major League ready but from all reports his glove certainly is. I just thought it might inspire/drive him if he saw the amount of preparation that guys like Vizquel put into the game and hopefully have some of that rub off on him. It's amazing to see what Vizquel has done with Alexei over this season. I guess I'm higher on Escobar than most, but a 21 year old switch hitter that is holding his own in the Southern League is still pretty impressive. Yeah, but Vizquel has helped Alexei in his fielding, not his hitting. And if you can hit, you will always have a job in the majors, but not necessarily if you are just a good fielder (Brian Anderson).

As some of the other regulars in the FS forum can attest, I was not sold on Escobar for some time, and tended to rank him lower than others did, because I saw nothing to lead me to believe his bat would play at all. But that has improved with time, and it seems I may have been wrong. Happens a lot.

Escobar is one of my favorite prospects. If he can keep this AA performance up I'll probably slot him at 8 in our prospect rankings. AA is a huge barrier for hitters and if he passes it this quickly, it would really surprise me. The glove will play so the bat only needs to be average. OilCan
The only thing I would love Escobar to keep improving is getting on base more. A .320 OBP won't work wonders. But, the glove will work on his behalf I guess!
