Defensively you mean? They left a lot of wide open threes and Illinois just burried them.

Coming into tonight Iowa was ranked very high on 3pt % defense but clearly tonight they were awful. I think maybe 2 of those threes that Illinois hit were contested tonight and Cole hit two where there was literally no one within 10 feet of him.

"blown away" was hyperbolic....should have said that if IL had shot a more typical 40ish% from 3 that Iowa definitely would have won. IL seems like a very 1-dimensional jump-shooty team. Of course, if they give Wisconsin a game I'll have to revise my opinion....

And if they shoot 40% against UIC and Mizzou, they probably win both those games. So you can say they are one-dimensional if you want, but if you are going to call them lucky threes to beat Iowa, you have to call them unlucky threes to lose to Mizzou and UIC. You can't have it both ways.

And there's a difference between open threes and contested threes. I don't have the numbers, but obviously you make a lot more wide open threes than you do with a guy right on you. Creating those looks is part of an offense, especially the motion offense. Illinois did a lot of this in 05, and I wouldn't call that team lucky.*

*Undoubtedly someone will take this as me comparing this team to the 05 team, which I am not doing, I am just talking about the motion offense and the tendency to shoot a lot of 3's. So here's my disclaimer.

Big road win for Iowa State at Virginia, 60-47. Hard not to like this group of guys.

According to KenPom, the Big 12 is absolutely f'ing loaded. Only 2 teams outside top 100, rest are in top 75. Six teams in the top 50 with Iowa State on the bubble (Nebraska is in the top 50? WTF). Gonna be a fun and painful conference season.

Down go the UConn women.

Streak over at 90.

f***ing Stanford. I am so pissed.

Not because UCONN lost because I dont care about them. It's because before last years womens NCAA tourney, a friend and I bet the field at +1100. Of course Stanford blew a double digit half time lead in the finals and we lost. We each threw like $30 on them so the pay would have been a little over $300 for each.

I was hoping they would go undefeated this year so I could get another high number and do the same.

9 of 12 teams are in the Top 50.

So many teams this year with really inconsistent results - beating teams way above them and/or losing to teams way below them. Look at UNI. They beat UNM and ISU, but lost to Missouri State, Iowa and Wisconsin-Milwaukee. How about USC? Beats Texas and Tennessee, loses to Rider by 20 and TCU. WTF?

Nebraska beat USC and Creighton, both just barely. Everyone else they have played is pretty much garbage, except Vandy who they lost to and Davidson who they should have beaten. So I'd say, like Iowa State, they are really hard to get a read on. We'll know a lot more when the B12 season starts.

KenPom is projected Iowa State to finish 20-11/7-9. Nebraska 20-10/8-8.

Vanderbeekan can go f*** himself. We were really down with no Mike Scott and Sherrill still hurting. Add in 3-24 from three and it was a really s***ty night.

He didn't do anything that couldn't have been expected - you guys were playing two of the best three point shooters in school history.

I'm still trying to figure out if Iowa State is good defensively or Virginia was just shooting that bad.

Looks like another one of those years for Northwestern. They scored fairly well against a tough Purdue defense, but they gave up WAY too many open looks, especially to Moore. They really need to win one of their next two (vs MSU, @ Illinois), which won't be easy.

You know what, it's amazing seeing how much love the Pomeroy rankings get these days. I remember a few years ago, it was just a nerdy blogger thing. Now, a lot more people go by them, including a lot of newspaper people.

Anyways, they have:

1) Big Ten

2) Big 12

3) Big East

4) ACC

5) Pac 10

6) SEC

The Big 12 and the Big 10 look very comparable this year with the exception of the dregs that are Tech (sorry PHF) and Oklahoma. It'd be neat to see a legit Big Ten/Big 12 Challenge next year. I'd love to see Iowa State schedule both Nebraska and Minnesota next year. It could look like this if you went roughly by the Pomeroy ratings, just going down in order for right now:

1) Kansas vs. Ohio State

2) Baylor vs. Purdue

3) Texas vs. Wisconsin

4) Mizzou vs. Michigan State

5) Texas A&M vs. Illinois

6) Kansas State vs. Nebraska

7) Iowa State vs. Northwestern

8) Oklahoma State vs. Minnesota

9) Texas Tech vs. Michigan

10) Oklahoma vs. Iowa

Those would be some neat matchups. Kansas - Ohio State would be a lot of fun to watch, as well as Baylor - Purdue if Baylor cared enough to show up. Mizzou/Michigan State would be a blast, and Iowa State and Northwestern would be of interest to no one outside of Ames and Evanston. :P

I'm honored that Tech is even mentioned. Pat Knight has done the worst coaching job of anyone in the nation this year. He took a likely tourney team with 7 seniors on the roster and turned them into a 6-7 squad on the season. Fans are dying for Billy Gilispie, but our AD is retiring in May, so we seem to be stuck with Pat for the rest of this miserable year.

We're counting on Tech to help us reach an NIT berth this year, keep sucking. :P

Looking at this matchups, if they happened today, it looks to me like the B10 wins on the top and bottom, and B12 wins in the middle.

Also, didn't NU and ISU just play each other last year?

Also, I wonder if ISU and Illinois have ever even played each other. ISU has played lots of schools from the other neighboring states over the years.

Nevermind, I found head to head records. LOL, Illinois with an 11-1 games edge on ISU, including the last 9 straight.

Yeah, but no games since 85 I believe. Johnny Orr was always big on scheduling Big Ten teams, hope that returns. I know him and Bobby Knight loved playing each other as well as pulling pranks on each other.

Up until about 3 games ago we had the 14th best 3 pt shooting team in the country. In the last 3 games we are like 7-65 so who the f*** knows.

That sure looks better than the Big 12 Pac 10 yawn fest. Getting stuck with Oregon two years in a row is lame.

Dear Hoosiers,

Please stop giving the opponent open looks.

Sincerely,

Angry Man

Dear Ed Hightower,

Stop thinking that everyone wants to watch you. All you do is whistle, wait several seconds so you know everyone's attention is focused on you, and then make extremely over-exuberant movements. It's really annoying. That's also disregarding the fact that you typically make terrible calls.

Sincerely,

Angrier Man

We had him Wednesday for the game against Michigan and he did the same thing. Wait forever, then make very demonstrative motions for something as simple as a ball out of bounds. Though my personal favorite is sometimes when there is a foul in the paint, he will walk up to the person the foul is on, point him out to all, then walk to the scorer's table to report it.

Every year it's the same song and dance. Fun times.
