Anyone else keeping an eye on the Rays?

Our first priority is the AL Central and winning it, but since it looks like the Twins may never lose again, I have begun to keep an eye out on the Rays and see what they do. We are currently 2nd in the Wild Card, and assuming the Red Sox hold their current 11-2 lead over Tampa, we would be 6 games out tonight with the Rays having to play through the Yankees and Red Sox over the next month.

I know some of you don't want to settle for a wild card, but I can't help but root for the Twins and Rays team buses to crash into eachother. :lolhitting

The Cardinals fans think they are still in it and aren't they six out?

Damn, we may have a better chance of WC than division.

I think that's gonna be over soon. They win all four vs. KC and we're hosed.

You're such an odd mix of positive thoughts and unfettered pessimism.

I've noticed. I scan the standings daily and with the sweep of the Red Sox we moved past them in the WC. Stranger things have happened but we are still closer to the Twins and we play them. Some one will falter, just hope it is not us. I already hate the "don't stop now boys" but it does seem appropiate for this string.

You keep praising the Twins every day saying we have no chance. Why do you bother watching anymore?

I think we have a much better shot at WC.

No way in hell KC wins one of the four in Minnie.

You think there is "no way" that anything other than a 4 game sweep happens? You realize that sweeping a 4 game series for any team against any foe is pretty unusual, right?

Actually, the chances that the Twins sweep are less than if the Royals win one. And regardless of the teams, there's a better chance of making up 3.5 games than making up 6 games.

So it's better to be dishonest with yourself and think we have a huge chance of winning the central? If we win

the division it's going to take a massively impressive strong run

people talk about sweeping the twins like it'll be (1) easy (2) the only necessary step

I'm not saying you need to have blind faith and expect us to go unbeaten the rest of the way but every day he keeps going on and on about how the Twins will win it.

And in case he hasn't noticed, we haven't lost since acquiring Manny. This team seems very confident now. I think we actually can sweep the Twins.

Im just going to say the Sox need to keep winning and not worry about the other teams. If they go on a crazy run this September and they still lose out on the division and Wild Card, it wasnt meant to be. Both the division and Wild Card are within reach though. The Rays have an extremely tough road to get to the playoffs, even with their final week and a half of baseball. The Twins and White Sox will decide when they play each other(imo) who gets the division.

I think what Sqwert was alluding to was the other poster's saying that winning the central is impossible. It's not impossible. And you're right it will take an impressive run, but it'll take just as impressive a run to win the wild card. Regardless of how well the the Sox play, the Twins and/or the Rays need to lose games as well. There's a 2.5 game difference between the divsion and the WC. Both the Twins and Rays are good teams. Mathematically, it's more likely that the Sox win the division than the WC.

Why would I stop watching?

You ever read a game thread? People in there say "It's Ovah" when we fall behind in the third inning.

I think we have a good shot at the WC, just not the division title. It's the Twins' year unfortunately.

I hope I'm wrong. You know how wrong people have been on this board this year?

So many people BURIED Beckham early and demanded he be sent down. They were so sick of watching him fail.

People wanted AJ out of town and he's rallied pretty well.

A couple years ago people BURIED Konerko.

So don't act like everybody on here always has the faith.

I can be a fan and strongly believe the Twins will win the Central.

Was it two years ago or 3? I forget.

Konerko was brutalized on here. I stood up for him like I did Dye last year and Jenks this year. People wanted him out.

It was that one season where he had a bad second half I think.

It must have been 07. People on here don't really take injuries into account if you are still playing.

Back to the original topic, a meltdown by the Rays is certainly possible. Didn't they have a little slump earlier and then right themselves. A lot of people crowned the Padres and now they're in a world of trouble. The season is long and there are always surprises and the unexpected. All the Sox can do is keep winning and hope it all works out in the end. This team is already exceeding my expectations for them.

WTF? A couple years ago people buried Konerko? Seriously, WTF? The only bad year he had was in 2007 when his thumb was screwed up.

Can you provide specific examples of these people who buried Konerko and how exactly they stated this burying?

Greg got mad and up in arms because people were booing him when he was having the bad year. Greg cannot accept that a player can be booed, because this must mean that the boo-er is saying that they hate the player, not the performance. Hence, everyone on Soxtalk "brutalized" Konerko except for greg.
