Chicago Mayor Richard Daley says he's not running for re-election after decades in office.

Daley said Tuesday he's been thinking about not running for several months and has become comfortable with his decision over the last several weeks. Daley says "it just feels right." Daley says the time to move on "is now."

The 68-year-old Democrat has been Chicago's mayor since 1989.

I just wanna know who rolled on Richie J.

While that might be part of it, I'd also say there is the very real situation he's in, that he just doesn't want to do it anymore. I think he's worn down, and his wife's health may also be a part of this.

My opinion only, but, I'd bet that the setup here is to have some schmo take office, try to clean things up, fail miserably, look terrible, then Daley's son steps in.

How old is his son/how long would they have to wait for him?

Patrick is somewhere around 35 years old now. Crazy, but I remember the party he had busted up at his dads place in New Buffalo, where one of his buddies used a bat to crush the skull of a kid from City.

That kid was in most of my classes that year. In fact, I knew half the kids at that party and arrested at that party.

I am both happy and sad.

Same here. I remember when his dad died, I was really young, but I remember thinking "who else knows how to be major?". So basically anyone under 25 really doesn't know Chicago without him as mayor.

I don't remember anybody other being mayor. I mean I know of them (Byrne, obviously Harold Washington) but I don't actually remember it.

I saw some people on Facebook saying Ditka for mayor. God Bears fans are f***ing stupid.
