Jordan4life_2007
So why is it that Bobby Cox always seemed to get a free pass for his club continuously coming up short in the postseason, yet Gardenhire is the worst manager that ever lived because he keeps losing to the AL all-star team? Thats a good question. In the Braves defense, they did make the WS 4 out of the first 5 playoff trips. Once the division series started, they won that round 5 straight years too. They at least were winning playoff series, Gardenhire is having difficulty winning single playoff games. That being said, Cox has lost 8 of his last 9 playoff series and hasnt made the NLCS since 2001, but you never really hear about that. My answer there is that even though Cox's teams were winning those divisions post 2002, those were the years that their pitchers started to get up in age, when Larry was 30 years old, when Klesko had already left, FA was starting to take its toll on the talent that had come up in the 90's, Smoltz was 34 and was in the bullpen, Maddux was 35 and his Cy Young streak was over, and thanks to the miracles of chemistry there were other spectacles to behold. Basically...his teams were still good enough to make the playoffs, but they just weren't dominant teams any more.

But they consistently lost to teams with considerably worse records and overall talent. They had no business losing to the Phillies in '93, the Yankees in '96 (they were up 2-0 going home for Game 3), the Marlins in '97, the Padres in '98 and the Cubs in 2003. And there was never a whisper about him losing his job. Just strange to me how he always got a pass.

And probably because Braves fans just don't care that much.
