Id imagine the Knicks will be big players for Chris Paul or Deron Williams too when they become f/a's, so Billups will for short term be an upgrade and obviously one of those 2 will be a major upgrade over Felton.

There has been a lot of talk about a hard cap in the NBA and if so, there is no way they can sign one of the PGs in addition to Amare/Stoudemire.

yeah, either hard cap or other protections such as much larger exceptions for players to stay with their own team, sounds like a goal for Stern and owners is to curtail FA for the bigger names, and NBA doesn't have the strongest union. If I were to guess, the in the next CBA it will be much harder for stars to move.

Another huge concern has to be A'mare's knee and the amount of minutes and running D'antoni is making him play.

Yeah, although the NFL has floated things like an enhanced schedule, they're basically arguing first and foremost over revenue distribution.

The NBA seems like it will have a much more philosophically based lockout. Can teams be allowed to go over the cap? Is it good for the league when things like the Lebron incident happen? How do you create a situation that doesn't require owners to take a loss in order to win games?

exactly, the NBA and NFL labor issues are extremely different. I actually believe NBA owners when they say they need to redo the system to make the NBA work going forward, NFL has a pile of money and they need to decide how it's going to be divided up and if they're going to add 2 more cash cows to their schedule.

It will be interesting to see if it is worth it to have multiple superstars when the next CBA is done. It could very well lead to a situation where a team has three stars and a D-league team to surround them because that is all that can be afforded. This trade will have to be judged in that retrospect. Another thing that could happen is that draft picks could become very important in the next salary structure because those are cheap and fixed cost players.

Rumor has it James Johnson was dealt to the Raptors, but no word on the return?

This was just reported on Boers & Bernstein.

2nd round pick, supposedly.

This works for me. It might set something else up or open things up for a bigger deal.

Hopefully it's setting up something, otherwise it just seems pointless to dump him for what is pretty much nothing.

It will be interesting to see what comes out of Heat, Orlando, Celts and Bulls in regards to reaction to the 'Melo deal. My guess would be they feel they're more dangerous on a game-by-game basis due to having 2 explosive players, but in a 7 game series, I imagine all 4 still feel they're better.

It's Miami's first-round pick for this year, which is currently held by Toronto. Not bad, especially if you scout well. Can get a decent role player around 30. Although the Bulls basically traded first round draft picks straight up and moved down 14 spots or so. I would love to pull a Spurs and use it on a foreign player who then blossoms a couple years later for you.

the bulls now has $2.9 million in cap space, and anthony parker makes $2.85 million

while parker might be an upgrade over the great keith bogans, i doubt he will make much of a difference on this team.

someone was saying the other day that Bogans over the last month or so has been a much better player than Parker has, offensively and defensively. I think I heard it on Mully and Hanley.

Marcus Thornton from the Hornets is also available for a 1st round pick.

Has very good ability offensively, but defensively he's a mess, that's why Monty Williams won't play him.

Well he won't play here then too if he can't cut it defensively.

Yep pretty much.

I read that Courtney Lee is a favorite of Thibodeau's. I still think he's by far the best option for the Bulls for their SG spot.

Forget about Thornton as well, apparently he's off to SAC along with cash for Carl Landry.

Landry gives the Hornets insurance in case David West opts out of his final year of his contract and goes into FA I suppose.
