MexSoxFan#1
QUOTE (Felix @ Mar 25, 2011 -> 02:53 PM) If it's the former, then I'm giving the nod to Dwight. He changes everything about the games Orlando plays. Their whole system is built around him offensively, and defensively he shuts off the paint from anyone on the other team. DBAH0 watches the Magic way more than I do, but every time I see them play, there's no doubt to me that Dwight significantly changes how both teams approach the game. Yet they are 6-4 the last 10 games...MVPs should be leading their teams to victories above stats IMO.
Kyyle23
Personally, I feel that Rose is my MVP this season because of how much better the Bulls are now compared to where they were last year. I dont know if the Magic are better at this point compared to where they were last year through 70 games or not, but I have watched every Bulls game the past 3 seasons (save maybe 5) and the difference now and then is unreal. Rose put this team on his back, and it all came together. Nobody expected it, very few saw it coming, but all of us are pretty much in agreement that the Bulls are now real title contenders, and I think that is largely because of Rose. lostfan
QUOTE (PeavyTime @ Mar 23, 2011 -> 08:58 AM) Did anyone catch that unbelievably bush league move by Hilton Armstrong at the end of the game last night? Dude pretended to shake CJ Watson's hand as CJ was dribbling off the last 10 seconds, stole the ball, ran up and hit a 3. I was in shock. The Bulls were in shock. Unreal. I was wondering what happened there. Who the hell does that? Steals the ball while a player is dribbling out the clock during a blowout, even an honest steal? chw42
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Mar 24, 2011 -> 09:43 PM) I'll take Westbrook as a better defender over Rose. I think the Durant argument is an interesting one also. Now that Jeff Green isn't there, James Harden is really the only other guy who can score on that team, and he's a sixth man. Rose doesn't have the quality of player of Durant on his team, but he has more scoring options alongside him as well. FWIW, here's another article arguing why Rose shouldn't be MVP; http://probasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/201...better-choices/ Rose's defense has vastly improved this season. He's really thrived in the new system, just like everyone else.
chw42
QUOTE (DBAHO @ Mar 24, 2011 -> 10:51 PM) JVG made a real interesting point on the NYK vs ORL broadcast last night. He basically said Orlando would be as bad as what Cleveland would be this season if they didn't have Howard, which considering how badly the rest of the supporting cast has played this season, I would actually agree with. I certainly don't think Rose will be the worst MVP winner of all time, he is deserving, but it shows you how much playing for a big market team and being the jewel in the media's eyes, how important that type of stuff can be I guess. I mean the reason the Bulls have improved so much this season, isn't because of an offensive improvement (they've only improved from 18th to 12th IIRC). It's because of defense, and that takes the whole team to buy into the system and become so good at it. I really doubt that... I'd think Orlando would be at least fighting for the 8 spot without Howard. That's like homer Bulls fans saying the Bulls would have 15 wins without Derrick Rose. Crazy talk... lostfan
Howard definitely deserves to be in the discussion as MVP. I mean a real case can be made. I'm saying that he's still the runner-up to Rose, and the Magic have taken a step back even while Howard's taken a step forward, but still, Howard is a juggernaut. That said, people who use comparisons of stats to random players are kind of missing the point of what the MVP is for.

The other 4 I'll accept. You have to remember that team is without Jamison and Davis ATM, and been pretty banged up all season long. That and Byron Scott isn't a very good "players" coach also IMO. No. If you mean efficient as in PER, then yes, he's one of the top 15 in PER I believe. But Rose is actually very inefficient. His TS% is very average (not for a PG though) and he takes around 21 shots a game to get 25 points. Edited March 26, 2011 by chw42
