What kind of position are you looking for? I spent the last two summers working in baseball.

My major is Journalism and Telecommunications, but I ultimately want to work in a front office. I've been applying to jobs for video production, like editing and logging video, social media, baseball operations.

I just worry about the employer saying "Can he not read? It said 3-7 years, and he has NO experience. Must have trouble following directions." I probably do need to be more lenient with fitting the qualifications though because I generally don't apply unless I fit every criteria and every skill expected of me is something I possess. I just don't want to be put in a situation where I applied for a job where basic coding is required and I have no clue how to do it. I like to be very prepared for things.

Yeah, but if you don't apply, the employer won't know to consider you anyway, so what do you care.

I am assuming that they understand everyone is just trying to get their foot in the door.

From their perspective, it's kind of like Christmas. They put everything they want on a list, and if they can somehow get it, great! If not, you kind of have to take what you get...

Yeah, that isn't going to happen. If they aren't interested, they just throw it away.

It's not a bad commute. My wife does Manhattan to Schaumburg and has for 12 years. 355 makes it very doable.

Well that's good to hear, yeah I'd definitely give it a month or 3 of commuting before deciding if I needed to move just the thought of wasting an hour or so in the morning and evening is a bit sad.

  • 2 weeks later...

After receiving yet another raise today, I now officially make double what I did a year ago.

It's weird. After having a budget always and forever, I just find myself with more cash than I could imagine spending. That's with a huge savings account.

Adulthood. Awesome.

Congrats Russ! I'm sure you are well-deserving!

What's the new position?

Thanks!

Security Support Analyst II, so moved up a level. Should be a great new challenge, level I is pretty much just keeping the lights on type stuff. Level II is actually building new systems or working on automating/eliminating tier I work.

I've never worked harder for something in my life so it felt really good to get recognized for it.

Very nice. I take it you accepted it then? Hope you can get that pool now, Clark!

I didn't really have much of a say, but we've been working on getting me to that level for the past 6 months or so. It's pretty much been my first career goal since starting out of college about a year and a half ago.

Hey, so if you want to buy a poor just-out-of-college kid a PS4, that'd be pretty swell.

Kthxbye.

I admire your discipline. I make about twice as much as well but just find myself spending more and more :)

I've made a large investment in my work wardrobe in the last few months. I think it's already paying dividends.

Yesterday I found out that I'm taking over a new project. I'll be working with Home Depot to open a new Distribution Center in Perris, California. It looks pretty far outside of LA.

Does anyone (Jason?) know much about this area? Will there be stuff to do? I've never been to Southern California. I imagine I might actually stay in Riverside or somewhere around there.
