Balta1701
Arbitration does not need to be offered until the beginning of December. There is little reason to do so early; you can wait and see what other teams are offering guys before you decide to offer arb or not. AJ may well not be offered arbitration anyway, because he would likely accept, and the Sox wouldn't want to pay him the amount he'd get in arbitration. Kalapse
November 23rd is the last day to offer arbitration, so there's no hurry. If AJ, Konerko, Manny (Type A's) or Putz (Type B ) are signed before then the Sox will receive draft pick compensation without the risk of offering arbitration. southsider2k5
Its pretty simple actually. Unless AJ or Manny sign before Nov 23rd, there is zero chance they get offered arbitration. PK and Putz get offers no matter what.
Dick Allen
You heard it here first, no inside info just a hunch, if Konerko goes elsewhere, KW signs Dye as a firstbaseman. Edited November 5, 2010 by Dick Allen

So is there a chance AJ could be like "Listen guys, I want to sign by the 23rd, so you will at least get a draft pick out of me". Not saying it would ever happen on purpose, but is there some rules against that?
Jake
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 5, 2010 -> 05:32 PM) You heard it here first, no inside info just a hunch, if Konerko goes elsewhere, KW signs Dye as a firstbaseman. I'd be shocked if they chose a 36(?) year old Dye over Viciedo, with Dye being a year removed from reps and never having played infield (except one glorious game at short stop). Maybe as a DH, but even then I don't see why do that really, especially with how right-handed our lineup is getting.

Dick Allen
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 5, 2010 -> 06:43 PM) So is there a chance AJ could be like "Listen guys, I want to sign by the 23rd, so you will at least get a draft pick out of me". Not saying it would ever happen on purpose, but is there some rules against that? I would guess if the Sox aren't even trying to negotiate a contract for AJ while they have exclusivity, teams understand there is probably little chance the Sox offer AJ arbitration, so they would wait until after that date to sign him. AJ becomes more valuable if his price isn't a first round pick plus his contract than just the cost of his contract. He's not going to try to help the Sox out and hurt his position. Of course, the Sox may get the lay of the land on the alternatives and not like what they are seeing, which may get them to start negotiating and even offering him arb hoping he accepts. Personally, I wish the Sox would at least try to bring him back for a bargain rate while they have no one else giving him an offer, but I think his 5 and 10 rights really bother the Sox front office. No. Actually the Sox could even go to AJ and ask him to decline arbit so that they could get the draft pick when he signs.

gatnom
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 5, 2010 -> 09:10 PM) Right, but that's actually put money at risk. There's no chance a team is going to lose a draft pick over him, especially when they could just wait a few weeks when we decline to offer him arbitration. AJ would have to take less money if he wanted to decline arbitration or sign early.

Of course...the flaw in that is that if AJ is a type A free agent, and AJ declines arbitration per a deal with the team, it may well wind up that no team signs AJ because no team wants to give up the draft pick. Dick Allen
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 6, 2010 -> 10:41 AM) *Prays for some magical Manny signing before 23* Donny Lucy had just as many homers and RBI and more extra base hits than Manny had for the White Sox in 2010. Lucy had 15 AB and may be selling insurance in 2011.
