Gordon Beckham said he has been on a mission, resuming workouts 10 days after the completion of his disappointing season.

But the extent of his work may depend on whether his right wrist has healed fully when he resumes hitting later this winter.

"It's OK," Beckham wrote Friday in a text message. "Still a little achy. No tests as of now."

The White Sox second baseman didn't start a game after Sept. 15 as the result of lingering pain after getting hit by a pitch from the Indians' Frank Hermann on Aug. 30.

The injury was the final straw in a frustrating season for Beckham, 24, who made a smooth transition from third to second base and overcame a slow start to hit .354 in July before being nagged by groin and hand injuries and finishing with a .252 batting average.

Extra inning: Catcher Donny Lucy and left-handed reliever Randy Williams were outrighted to Triple-A Charlotte and became minor league free agents. As the result, the Sox's 40-man roster is at 31.
