Texsox
I've read a couple longish articles and watched a documentary on the sinking. I might search out a couple today.
Milkman delivers
I thought that wreck was much, much older.
NorthSideSox72
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 10, 2010 -> 02:39 PM) I thought that wreck was much, much older. Recent enough that Gordon Lightfoot (then others following like Simon Barr Sinister) wrote and performed a famous folk song about it. I have it on my iTunes. I have it on my iTunes. I have it, too. I just figured the event happened in the earlier half of the 20th century, which still would've allowed Gordon Lightfoot to write a song about it. dasox24
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 10, 2010 -> 04:49 PM) I have it, too. I just figured the event happened in the earlier half of the 20th century, which still would've allowed Gordon Lightfoot to write a song about it. I thought the same thing. I have the song on my iTunes as well, but always thought it was an old wreck. I had no idea it was just 35 years ago.
BigSqwert
Is this the ship that was mentioned in the Seinfeld episode when George was trying to get that apartment?
Balta1701
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Nov 10, 2010 -> 05:32 PM) Is this the ship that was mentioned in the Seinfeld episode when George was trying to get that apartment? No, that was the Andria Doria, an Italian passenger liner that collided with another ship in the 1950's.
WilliamTell
A while back I saw the Arthur M. Anderson in Duluth, Minnesota. That was the other ship that was sailing with the Edmund Fitzgerald. Edited November 11, 2010 by WilliamTell
Harry Chappas
I saw a special on it and I too thought it was in the earlier part of the century. I also thought it happened in January when the weather is really bad.
Soxy
QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Nov 11, 2010 -> 03:15 PM) I saw a special on it and I too thought it was in the earlier part of the century. I also thought it happened in January when the weather is really bad. Typically ship traffic on Lake Superior is stopped from Dec-Feb because the lake is frozen. In my experience the gales and wind and storms in November are really scary and terrific. (Although it's been a REALLY mild month thus far.)
