I love Teahen, as a person.

As a player, well, he better improve.

He's such a good guy maybe we should all try to give him a clean slate. I know I was his worst critic. Maybe I can pretend he's such a good clubhouse presence he'll have a decent year his second season in Chicago. The problem is his fielding is so bad. I'm not sure it can improve at all.

I always disliked Teahen (baseball speaking), but at least he makes me laugh and seems like a cool guy.

Mark Kotsay brought NOTHING to the table but a hot wife.

Don't forget the doughnuts.

I dunno though, she's preeeeetty hot. 1 year, $550k couldn't hurt, right?

Adam Dunn would be relegated to backup 1B/DH. Kotsay is your everyday starter and opening day starting pitcher as well.

Couldn't hurt...just like one line of cocaine couldn't hurt.

A more cynical view of things would note that his career-best season in 2006 (.313/.381/.551) was in a contract season, as was his again-career-best 2010 season (.312/.393/.584).

Someone with a Baseball Prospectus membership should correct this in the comments section.

According to Joel Sherman, the Yankees inquired about John Danks and were told no by the White Sox. The Yanks also pursued King Felix and Josh Johnson. The White Sox, however, would move Floyd or Jackson and like the Yankees prospects.

I can stand moving Jackson, but not Floyd. Please not Floyd.

Remember the last time we traded for Yankees prospects? Bad, bad memories.

Kenny better be smart enough to have the conversation start with Austin Romine or Jesus Montero. If Cashman says "no" to either, then hang up.

But I would really love Gardner over everyone.

Floyd for Gardner and a couple of B prospects and it's a done deal. But I doubt the Yankees will give up Gardner.

Are you talking about the Swisher deal? If so, I don't think that was as much of the White Sox trading for Yankees prospects opposed to the White Sox simply trying to get players they felt worked within their system for a guy that they needed to get rid of.

I don't even remember any other times the White Sox got Yankees prospects back in a deal, at least recently.

I don't want the Sox to trade Floyd for purely selfish reasons. My sister in law lives in Florida and one of her neighbors is Gavin Floyd. She actually got to know him a little just through nieghborly conversation, even though she had no idea who he was as a baseball player. She is not a sports fan at all but just happened to mention his name to me in a casual phone conversation a few months ago, evidently he helped her with something. Anyway, she was shocked that I knew who he was. She just thought that he was an extremely nice guy (his wife also) who happened to live close by. She said that Gavin is very active in her church in the off season.

Since then she told him that her brother in law was a big White Sox fan and included an autographed Gavin Floyd baseball card in her Christmas card to us. She still doesn't really care since she is not into sports, but I may have to go visit her this winter and get to know her nieghbor a little !

I don't want to trade a Danks or Floyd to the AL unless it's Texas and we get back Holland in the deal. The Angels will be the team to beat IMO unless Texas makes a couple big upgrades so trading Danks/Floyd there doesn't necessarily put them over the top like it would with the Yankees.

I really don't want to trade either of those guys actually, but I'd take offers just in case someone made a stupid-good offer to Kenny that, combined with another move or two, made us a lot better in 2011 and going forward. I especially abhor the idea of trading a SP as a means to affording a reliever - because with our starters you can look at them and say "He should be pretty good this year, maybe he's actually better than that" while with relievers you generally look at them and say "Please God don't make me regret this acquisition."

The only way danks is moved is if the prospects help get Grienke.

Why is that the only way? I could certainly see lots of ways that D1 gets moved that don't involve prospects for Greinke. If someone offered you a package involving a talented young SP and another player for him, along with some salary relief, there'd be every reason to grab that deal. If you're 100% convinced that Peavy will be ready on day 1 and you want to start the season with Sale in the rotation, if someone offered you a real good deal for Danks even without a starting pitcher coming back, why not take it?

And the Royals aren't going to trade Greinke within the division anyways.

If they got the right package I'm sure they would. I don't know who could offer it to them though. Maybe Cleveland, if they were open on Santana.

And Cleveland has no point in dealing Santana.

I'm sure if the Sox wanted to totally sabotage their minor league system, the Royals might accept, but even then I doubt that.

For the Sox to get Greinke, I'm going to suggest it would take Beckham, Sale, Mitchell, Viciedo, and, s*** I don't know, Santos, Flowers, Escobar? The point is, it's going to cost an absolute s***load for the Sox to get him comparatively to the rest of the teams in the league.

Put into visual form, is Greinke-Peavy-Floyd-Buehrle really that much better than Danks-Peavy-Floyd-Buehrle? I'm going to say no and I think Greinke is probably one of the top 5 pitchers in the AL.

It's simply not worth it.

anyone that is even 50% certain Peavy is ready on Day 1 is overly optimistic. Anyone that has faith in Peavy pitching more than 100 innings a season as a certainty moving forward is optimistic. Peavy is a crap shoot that has shown to be injury prone thus you always need a strong 5th and a viable 6th if he is on the roster.

With the money the White Sox have invested this offseason, they can not downgrade their rotation and moving Danks for youth and cost relief is foolish. They only have 4 starters now and to move one for a young starter moves Sale to the rotation where he is an unknown and leaves your pen very weak. Spending big money on bullpen arms is a risk as well.
