IamtheHBOMB
QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 02:08 PM) Dunn on recruiting Konerko: "I personally would love to have him back, if Kenny wants him to call him, I will." Dunn on dh or fielding: "I don't care. I'll do whatever they want me to do." Dunn on Ozzie: "I'm a loud guy too so we'll get along." Dunn: "I know I'm joining a team that has been successful. Have an opportunity to not just win, but to win a World Series." I'm starting to feel like we are being set up for a Paul Konerko heel turn where he signs with the Twins or something. WHITESOXRANDY
I don't mind Dunn being the DH but I can't believe how much the Sox overpaid for him. s***. When you consider that the Sox could get a much better hitter like Vlad Guerrero on a two or three year deal at $ 6-7 mil per or even Thome on a 1 year deal for $ 4-5 mil. and Thome's better at 41 than Dunn is at 31. There's just no way that Dunn as a DH and not even close to being one of the best hitters in baseball or even a valuable player should command $ 14 mil. per year. Pujols will get $ 25 mil. per and if he was only a DH he would get much less and he's three times the hitter. It's just a huge overpayment. And, now how do the Sox convince Konerko to take less money than Dunn when he is clearly a far better baseball player.

witesoxfan
QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 07:38 PM) I don't mind Dunn being the DH but I can't believe how much the Sox overpaid for him. s***. The Sox didn't overpay for him. He is seriously worth $14 million a year to swing the bat 4-5 times per game - thats how good he is offensively. When you consider that the Sox could get a much better hitter like Vlad Guerrero on a two or three year deal at $ 6-7 mil per or even Thome on a 1 year deal for $ 4-5 mil. and Thome's better at 41 than Dunn is at 31. I would like to see any evidence you have of Vlad being a better hitter. On top of that, I would like to see any evidence you have of Thome being a better hitter. Remember that you have to consider durability when doing so. In my opinion, both Vlad and Thome are good hitters but they are not superior options to Dunn. They aren't even equal, and really it's not close. In fact, signing Vlad to the 2-3 year deal worth $6-7 million would have been overpaying for him by a ridiculous amount. There's just no way that Dunn as a DH and not even close to being one of the best hitters in baseball or even a valuable player should command $ 14 mil. per year. Pujols will get $ 25 mil. per and if he was only a DH he would get much less and he's three times the hitter. Dunn is one of the best hitters in baseball though. Adam Dunn has the 4th most home runs in a players first 10 seasons - 354. Using some pretty simple arithmetic, that means he's averaged 35.4 homers per season in each of the first 10 years of his career. On top of that, he has the most walks in the majors over the past 7 seasons too, so he is getting on base at the same time. If Pujols were a DH, he'd STILL get $25 million a year. He's a once in a generation hitter who is going to be worth virtually any contract that you sign him to. It's just a huge overpayment. And, now how do the Sox convince Konerko to take less money than Dunn when he is clearly a far better baseball player. Pretty easily, and if Konerko doesn't resign, then they can just sign Lee. --- Here's what I want from you - any evidence you have that Dunn sucks. You are pretty adament about this, so you must believe it, and therefore you must have evidence to back it up. I could make a similar post to yours wondering why the White Sox didn't trade for Ryan Theriot because he's a far superior player to Alexei Ramirez, but that wouldn't hold much ground because it's quite clear that it's wrong. So prove it. Why does Adam Dunn suck? What does JIM THOME bring to the table that Adam Dunn doesn't? greg775
It's just a huge overpayment. And, now how do the Sox convince Konerko to take less money than Dunn when he is clearly a far better baseball player. That's the only part of your post that made me say, "You are correct, sir." I doubt we can keep Paulie for that reason. Dunn strikes out a ton but hey, he hits a lot of home runs and is worth a shot. Ticket prices are gonna be high no matter if we have Dunn or not. So might as well have Dunn. If for some reason Paulie signed, ON PAPER we have a pretty good offense. Dunn, Paulie, CQ, Rios, Lexi and Beckham are a darn good sixpack to go with AJ, Morel and weak Juan. If Viciedo wins the job, that's a pretty solid seven (I'm high on Viciedo despite his bad D). Paulie not signing with us still leaves a lineup hole, though. I guess Lee would be OK in theory.

No I agree completely. That $2 mill is actually pretty huge, especially when it could mean the difference between giving anybody $5 million instead of $7 million. I mean, if it came down to that, I'm sure Reinsdorf and company would pay up, so it's not as big of a concern to me, but it still sucks. I am happy that it seems like he atleast has a live arm. Throw him in the bullpen and maybe he blossoms.
