Iwritecode
I’ve only read 6 that I know of for sure, although I read Great Expectations in high school and don’t really remember any of it. I’m not 100% sure about Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. The Lovely Bones I only read because we watched the movie and my wife happened to have the book lying around the house. Half of them I’ve never even heard of. The other half I’ve heard of because they are classics or had a movie made from them. It’s funny because I really love to read but have just never gotten around to many of these. I’ve been meaning to read Lord of the Flies for years. Read: 2 The Lord of the Rings - JRR Tolkien 5 To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee 10 Great Expectations - Charles Dickens 16 The Hobbit - JRR Tolkien 64 The Lovely Bones - Alice Sebold 87 Charlotte’s Web - E.B. Soxy
I just included the ones that I've read. Shameful that none of Mrs. Gaskell's books are on here. I would also add that I have probably half of the other books at home and they are on my to read list. Of course at the moment I am eschewing my literary classics for a complete re-reading of the Inspector Rebus series by tartan noir author, Ian Rankin. On book 10 of 17 at the moment. Loves it. 43--Suck it BBC. I've read more of your classic literature than most Brits (ETA: I know not all of these books are British). Middle Buffalo
1 Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen 4 Harry Potter series - JK Rowling Didn't read the last one. My 11 year old is tearing through these now. 5 To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee 6 The Bible 12 years of Catholic school/church covered most of it. 7 Wuthering Heights - Emily Bronte 8 Nineteen Eighty-Four - George Orwell Favorite part - the ball going through Durham's legs. 11 Little Women - Louisa M Alcott 15 Rebecca - Daphne Du Maurier 18 Catcher in the Rye - JD Salinger 21 Gone With The Wind - Margaret Mitchell 22 The Great Gatsby - F Scott Fitzgerald 27 Crime and Punishment - Fyodor Dostoyevsky 33 Chronicles of Narnia - CS Lewis 34 Emma -Jane Austen 36 The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe - CS Lewis 37 The Kite Runner - Khaled Hosseini - books on tape - I'll count it 48 The Handmaid’s Tale - Margaret Atwood 54 Sense and Sensibility - Jane Austen 57 A Tale Of Two Cities - Charles Dickens - AP English - hated this book 58 Brave New World - Aldous Huxley 61 Of Mice and Men - John Steinbeck 70 Moby Dick - Herman Melville 75 Ulysses - James Joyce AP English - I don't think we read the whole thing, though - just passages 91 Heart of Darkness - Joseph Conrad 98 Hamlet - William Shakespeare Sadly, I don't think I could answer any questions about any of the books I listed. I've always had terrible recall when it comes to books and movies.

Heads22
2 The Lord of the Rings - JRR Tolkien 3 Jane Eyre - Charlotte Bronte 4 Harry Potter series - JK Rowling 5 To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee 6 The Bible 16 The Hobbit - JRR Tolkien 25 The Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy - Douglas Adams 27 Crime and Punishment - Fyodor Dostoyevsky 47 Far From The Madding Crowd - Thomas Hardy 49 Lord of the Flies - William Golding 87 Charlotte’s Web - E.B. White 98 Hamlet - William Shakespeare I really enjoyed Crime and Punishment, even if it was a little dense. I had totally forgotten I'd read Far From the Madding Crowd until this. SouthsideDon48
I only read 7 books from that list of 100. I read: To Kill a Mockingbird David Copperfield Lord of the Flies A Tale of Two Cities Of Mice and Men Oliver Twist Charlotte's Web I guess they were right about most people only reading about 6 of the books from the list. lol
SouthsideDon48
I'm surprised they didn't include "A Time to Kill" by John Grisham in that list.

NorthSideSox72
Now that I'll have a Metra commute and can read on the way to work, I've got a stack of books (most I got as B-Day or X-Mas presents this year) that I have up next... Salt: A World History - Mark Kurlansky Obama's Wars - Bob Woodward Lies My Teacher Told Me - James W. Loewen Crossing Open Ground - Barry Lopez I seem to be on a non-fiction kick.
