It would be hilarious if McCain showed up and voted no and told Trump to kiss his ass on the way out. It won't happen but that would be the best possible ending

People have been fantasizing that John McCain is this type of decent person for nearly 20 years now and no matter how many times we see the opposite the fantasy persists.

I fully acknowledged it was a fantasy

it disgusts me that he gets so many people to go along with that fantasy.

He's the kind of man who can get called a loser by the President, say that he shouldn't have been captured and is a failure as a soldier, get cancer, then drive across the entire country with cancer to support the man who called him a loser and make it so millions of people can't get the same treatment he gets. That does not deserve some fantasy about him being an honorable person. It shouldn't even come to mind.

How very brave of The Maverick to risk his own life to doom millions of Americans to financial hardship and possibly death.

It's one way to tarnish your legacy.

This has been his legacy his entire career, he's just given the occasional "I'm uncomfortable with the terrible thing I'm about to do" speech before doing terrible thing, and the press laps up how wonderful the speech was. If this tarnishes his legacy, then he shouldn't have had a legacy in the first place because this is normal for him.

Per Rand Paul, they're voting on the 2015 "gut all of the ACA funding" R&R plan, so Paul will vote for the MTP, which means the MTP will definitely succeed later today.

This plan will destroy a whole lot of the health care industry in this country.

The Cruz Amendment is so bad it's literally "does not compute" when you try to analyze its effects because it'll blow up the markets.

Excellent tweet that sums up my feelings:

And if the Democratic Party dies, then the left dies.

Progressives would never be able to cobble together a coherent party.

Dan Zak @MrDanZak

Replying to @MrDanZak

If today D.C. had senators, as Wyoming does, the No votes on #healthcare #MTP would already be up to 51 (with Susan Collins).

Dan Zak @MrDanZak

If D.C. was a state, as the less-populated Wyoming & Vermont are, the vote wouldve been 52-50 against proceeding toward repeal of Obamacare.

2:12 PM - 25 Jul 2017

don't forget to add PR in there too, then we'd have 54-50.

Wait WTF is going on with McCain?

He gave a speech last week insisting there should be regular order on the Health Care Bill.

He then announced he was being treated for cancer.

He stayed in Arizona for a few days then they trucked him in to vote against regular order on the health care bill and to make sure that only people like him deserve treatment for cancer.

He's now giving a speech about how important it would have been to have regular senate rules followed on the Health Care bill after deciding it wasn't worth voting for. He's getting hugs for it and declaring how he won't vote for the next time it comes up, just like he wouldn't go against regular order on the bill last week.

He's scum. He will take advantage of you any way you let him.

Depending on the final outcome, John McCain's speech on the floor of the Senate after voting to allow debate on a mystery healthcare bill either goes down in history as a great moment for the Senate and the country, or one of the great farces.

It was a truly powerful speech, and it will define Senator John McCain's entire legacy. The only question is how.

Glad he voted yes for the right, selfless reasons.

He knows that if other people get the same disease as him, it will motivate them to work harder to earn their insurance and they'll be better people for it.

"This thing I just did and had the power to stop is very bad!"

Jesus christ no, McCain is a scumbag who just voted to take the next step in killing tens of thousands of Americans a year. f*** him and f*** every Dem who applauded him as he did it.

Had he voted No, he wouldn't have had the platform to give this speech. Interesting twist. We'll see how it plays out.

He's a long-sitting and popular US Senator who can go on any news program or call a press conference that'll get coverage whenever he wants. He didn't need to do this at all. He wanted to.
