Kalapse
Derrek Lee, 2 picks and maybe a little extra cash is looking better and better by the minute when I think about it. He and Konerko are just such incredibly similar players that -- assuming injuries are not a factor, huge assumption, I know -- it's kind of a toss up as to who will put up the better numbers next season. Just looking at Bill James' usual optimistic projections for next season, which truly mean next to nothing at face value but does succeed in emphasizing the similarity: .273/.361/.496 wOBA: .372 .278/.365/.475 wOBA: .367 If our doctors like the looks of Lee's wrist this does look like the best course of action. SoxFan562004
Would love to see PK come back, but really glad to hear KW is moving ahead with Plan B, need to do what's best for team, and at this point it may not be waiting for PK

fathom
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 11:00 PM) Does anyone have a clue what Lee would like to do next year? Since him being plan b or c hasn't been quite the secret the last few days, I'm sure someone would have heard from a "source" if he wasn't interested in the White Sox. maggsmaggs
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 04:41 PM) Honestly, I couldn't be happier right now. If PK comes back, then great, he's my favorite Sox player ever. If it's Lee and 1-2 relievers, then that's perfect also. PK not signing is probably in the best interest of team success. PR on the otherhand... QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 04:44 PM) Source: "I talked to Paulie last night and he said the Sox were his priority unless they made an offer that disrespected him.'' - Cowley KW on PK: "I'm still hopeful, but I'm less hopeful now." and "I want the man back, but you don't always get what you want." - Ballantini There is no way the Sox offered less than $36 million over three years (no info, just speculating). And that rate, the only disrespecting is Konerko demanding more. I would love to see the Sox sign Lee and then see Konerko get a shaft if this is all true about his $15 million mandate. I am just sick of athletes clamoring that they are being disrespected with offers of $10-plus million per year. Please. Eminor3rd
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 04:24 PM) You do realize how far off you are in this claim, dont you? I can't even take MYSELF seriously when using a phrase like "K Krown." No, occasionally I exaggerate, believe it or not. Here's what I meant: I don't think Viciedo is ready to hit in the majors as a full-time 1B because he strikes out too much

South Side Fireworks Man
QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 05:52 PM) If it's not about the money, then PK needs to quit f***ing about and say that and tell the Sox he's not coming back. If it's not a money issue then what the hell else does he want?? It is kind of sounding like Paulie is using the Sox to drive up his price and get more money out of the Diamondbacks. I don't blame KW for not pissing around with this anymore. Bring on D. Lee and the bullpen arms. I don't think Paulie really wants to play for the White Sox anymore. I don't know the reason why but all the signs are there. His comments at the end of the season that the Sox could offer him more money than another team and he still might not return indicated that he was tired of playing for the Sox. One could have speculated that he didn't think the Sox would "go all in" and that was the reason, but now the Sox have brought back AJ who took a lower offer to return and then deferred half of his 2011 salary, and they also signed Dunn who deferred part of his salary. If Paulie really wanted to stay he would have jumped at any fair offer the Sox would have made. Since he's still holding out, I say move on. They can probably sign Derrick Lee along with two decent bullpen arms for what Konerko wants. Add in the two draft picks and it's a no-brainer. I really wanted Konerko back but since it's obvious that the Sox aren't his first choice, time to move on. I'm sorry to say that they're probably better off without him (if reports of him wanting $13 - 15M are accurate).

I would love to see the Sox sign Lee and then see Konerko get a shaft if this is all true about his $15 million mandate. I imagine PK and his agent are waiting for Crawford and Lee to sign and then see if a team with money that missed out on them offer them close to the 15m a year he wants, it's a risk because if all the pieces fall correctly and the White Sox wrapped up their plan B he may be left short on the money... however, if he's comfortable going to D'Backs for less, that will likely be open for him. The Ginger Kid
per espn: The White Sox were believed to be offering three years and between $36 million and $39 million. But Adam Dunn's new deal was worth $14 million a year, and indications are that Konerko's camp is holding strong for at least the same, if not slightly more. If true, Sox were already willing to overpay to bring back Paulie. If he won't sign for $39M, he doesn't really want to play for the Sox. Bye, Paulie! Paging Derrick Lee..... chetkincaid
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 05:00 PM) Does anyone have a clue what Lee would like to do next year? You have to think that D. Lee would want to be with the Sox. Remember last year when he exercised his no trade clause while he was with the Cubs because he didn't want to leave the Chicago area? And I believe that he is still friends with Juan Pierre and Ozzie Guillen. They all won the World Series together in 2003 with the Marlins. And I bet he thinks that the Sox will have a very good team and could make a lot of noise in the playoffs next year. I bet D. Lee is hoping that Konerko shuns the Sox. PK had a better year last year, but Dunn had better years 3 of the last 4, is younger and a far more consistent player. Again, hope PK resigns, but don't want to see the Sox overpay

soxsoxsoxsox
“Unfortunately I was very hopeful coming down here,” said Sox general manager Kenny Williams. “I was hoping it wouldn’t really come down to us getting serious about other options, but at this time I have no other choice.” Really disappointing news, Sox were having a great offseason. I really hope other options don't include D. Lee. I watched him struggle enough on the north side to last me a lifetime.
