Chisoxfn
All of you are nitpicking. The two are very similar players, what matters is what are their health's like right now. The past doesn't matter as much as we know that is similar. If we think both are at 100% for their age without any major hurdles than I'm just fine with Lee. If Lee has issues, than maybe we should give Konerko the money or go another way. LaRoche and Pena both have some issues if you put them in the same lineup as an Adam Dunn (I.e., low average and high strikeout numbers). RockRaines
QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 05:17 PM) I really hope other options don't include D. Lee. I watched him struggle enough on the north side to last me a lifetime. When exactly? He was awesome for the Cubs. He had a bad first half last year, thats it. He was awesome in the second half. They are similar players offensively, DLEE is head and shoulders better defensively. And with DLEE you net 2 draft picks and probably one or two pen arms. Chisoxfn
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 03:45 PM) You better believe DLEE is probably option B for KW, and he is thinking exactly what we are. If he is healthy, he is significantly better than Pena/LaRoche. Both of those guys aren't near as complete players as Lee. Plus we all know that Lee (and Paulie) are good leaders and well respected in the city.
Kalapse
QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Dec 7, 2010 -> 05:17 PM) “Unfortunately I was very hopeful coming down here,” said Sox general manager Kenny Williams. “I was hoping it wouldn’t really come down to us getting serious about other options, but at this time I have no other choice.” Really disappointing news, Sox were having a great offseason. I really hope other options don't include D. Lee. I watched him struggle enough on the north side to last me a lifetime. Derrek Lee Joined the Cubs in 2004 and hit .298/.378/.524/.903 with a 129 OPS+ in a Cubs uniform Paul Konerko over that same time frame hit .281/.366/.520/.886 with a 127 OPS+
bigruss
DLee will be more available than Konerko next year, and should be at least $5 million less (depending on Konerko's contract). Plus both being great teammates and citizens, I think it's a pretty easy decision. Sorry Konerko, loved what you did here but it's apparent you want to go elsewhere. Thank you for the memories, I wish you luck where ever you go. Now go improve the team KW, and make the right move. Sign DLee
Soxbadger
Id rather have Paulie and Id rather pay up. But some times you just cant make a deal happen.

And with DLEE you net 2 draft picks and probably one or two pen arms. I'm not sure about head-and-shoulders above, I don't think a lot of the ZR/UZR stats are very useful for 1B... but probably a little better, and similar offensively. Both have some health issues in their past, but nothing alarming. Difference is D-Lee comes at probably half the price and nets the Sox draft picks, so... D-Lee is should be. spiderman
Are the White Sox talking with Derek Lee's agent? Has there been any talk or is just logical speculation on whom Williams may target? As to these comments by Williams about looking at other options, it's public posturing, but it's also probably true. Williams has to explore other options at the same time, but I have to believe that a deal will be struck very soon between the Sox and Konerko - he'll get 3 years at around $13 million per season. What is Lee's expected value on the market? Is he a 1 year deal at $10 million?

If Konerko doesn't sign with the Sox soon, (in the next 24 hours or sooner) the PK era is ovah. Kenny can't wait any longer. He wants to make moves Wed/Thurs of this week and he will. ThunderBolt
I think Kenny is working this perfectly. I have complete faith things are going to work out, Paulie or not. That's a pretty marked change in perspective for me from last year, but i'm really confident.

He just said on CTL he's got a follow up meeting to the one he took earlier today. He intends to make a deal for a 1B tonight or tomorrow AM. He's through "neglecting" other agents.
