caulfield12
LOCAL RATINGS http://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/article/66312 White Sox 26th, Cubs 23rd....but this was in the middle of last season, I'd assume the White Sox average ratings picked up from July-August for sure http://www.sportsmediawatch.net/2010/10/ca...atings-red.html (i can't access this here in China) Reactions? Seems a lot of the huge market teams have low/lower ratings as well, which makes sense in terms of the fact that many in LA and Chicago aren't interested in baseball and the sports followings are less concentrated in markets like St. Louis or Minnesota. soxrwhite
The number of households watching is probably a more important number than the rating share.
caulfield12
If you go by average number of households for the tv broadcasts, the Cubs were 9th and the White Sox 17th.
knightni
How in the world can you get exact TV ratings unless you're monitoring all of the major cable and satellite users' boxes?
caulfield12
I think the way the Nielsen company does it is random samplings in the thousands of viewers....they also try to enroll their subscribers in programs where they monitor tv usage automatically through a centralized computer database. knightni
I know how Nielsen stuff works. I just think that they're unreliable.
Balta1701
QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 13, 2010 -> 02:04 AM) I know how Nielsen stuff works. I just think that they're unreliable. Oh come on knight, really, you're questioning how reliable basic statistical analysis is on a baseball board?
ScottyDo
Nielsens are antiquated and unreliable, especially with how media has changed over the past 10ish years. That said, they probably reflect the team hierarchy pretty well as I bet the baseball fanbase is relatively homogeneous across teams.
