Winter...LOL

I know, I know...we live in Chicago. We have a sucky winter every year what else would I expect.

This year it has been ridiculous in how early and harsh it has showed itself. Me and the wife are edging closer and closer to moving out of this city just because of the weather alone.

Austin, TX here we come because this is a frickin joke.

As someone looking to buy a second home in south Florida because of my hatred of cold and snow, this is nothing. Fairly mild Oct and Nov. I think it was the second latest in 82 years for a measurable snowfall. It will be interesting to see how it goes the rest of the day, but thus far, the predictions for this current storm were once again far more dire than reality. There's maybe an inch on the ground downtown. The wind is blowing but the streets are clear.

I figured everyone would tell me this is nothing.

I guess I am just done with the winters of Chicago. My wife has a job offer in North Carolina but that won't even be warm enough for me. I want to get as far away from this stuff as possible.

Schools go on 1-2 hour delays or even close here when it just drops to 20 degrees. THere doesn't even need to be snow. I keep laughing.

I feel your pain, and you are correct, if this bothers you that much, and I can totally understand your frustration, its time to head south. Its only going to get worse. I also agree about NC. You still have some nastiness with the winters and the summers can be just as hot as those with no snow during the winter months.

I want to live somewhere that is so mild I don't even get the chance to prove my Chicago weather toughness.

That's a fact. Sometimes they just do it as a precaution. Gotta love the South...

But in all honesty, it's mainly because they're not prepared to handle it if it really does snow/ice. There's only enough equipment to handle the major roads, and even worse, people here don't know how to drive in the snow so there would be tons of wrecks and people getting stuck off the road.

My wife and I have toyed with the idea of moving to Central Florida for about 9 months now. Our biggest hold back was my wife's family, we didnt want to "offend" her mother by "turning out back" on Iowa and "deserting" the family.

Well, this morning my wife "jokingly" said "I may have to move somewhere warm." To our surprise, her mom said that sounded great, as long as we moved somewhere that's warm all year so they can come during the winter!

The shackles are off! Florida, here we come!

We're all full, actually, and don't need anymore transplants.
