While we like Cliff Lee leaving our League so we dont have to deal with him, if the the Yanks lose out on him they will throw $$ at relievers left on the open market. That will all but end the likelihood that the White Sox are able to sign bullpen help this off season. So which is it exactly that we want.

perhaps NYY will just get a high priced reliever (Soriano) and a good lefty...which is $$-wise probably not what we're going to be competing for.

If we sign two relievers instead of acquire by trade....I'd see us ending up with a moderately priced decent righty and a shot-in-the-dark lefty.

Phillies would definitely have best rotation of all time.

And if Lee signs w/ them, this may set up well for Texas and Yankees maybe trying to get Buehrle or Floyd from the Sox if they both need a starter desperately. Grienke might be too expensive, trade wise, for them.

Mayhaps:

Joelsherman1 Joel Sherman

#Whitesox (who like #Yankees prospects) would consider moving Jackson/Floyd, #Marlins Nolasco (Girardi managed him). that is level available

Watching that Phillies pitching staff vs. that Red Sox offense in the World Series should be interesting.

I kinda thought the same thing. It's like the Miami Heat all over again.

The Phillies dumping Lee a year ago doesn't look too bad right now (regardless of what you think of the talent): lose Lee for a year and get three prospects in return.

They got 3 prospects in return, but they also gave up prospects. D'Arnould, Taylor, and Kyle Drabek (who, when combined, are much better than what they received).

Ok, so what will it take for the Sox to fight against the Sawks or Phils?

Honestly a good bullpen. I think the Sox have the best balance of the two teams. Philly has awesome starting pitching(not just great), but their bullpen is not better than ours and neither is their offense. Boston has a great offensive team now even without Beltre. Their starting pitching is questionable as well as their bullpen. I like Lackey alot still along with Lester. Beckett is a question mark. I'm not yet sold on Clay and Dice K is Bust K to me.

The Sox just need to solidify their bullpens and I think they can compete. Also, Carlos Quentin will also have to improve. From there, I think the Sox have a damn good chance.

Clay is way better than Lackey.
