bschmaranz
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 01:57 PM) Verducci says today its >$160 million. That K to BB rate thing is insane. 4 of the top 8 in the league reside in Philly now. As if 3 of 8 weren't great already.
The Ginger Kid
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 10:51 AM) You know...even if a deal like that is a fair deal for everyone involved...it's just so complicated that I couldn't possibly fathom it happening. There's so many veto points, management, ownership on each team, the players themselves, contracts, etc. if it were the NBA, then yes. but i agree. Oh I'm sure according to ESPN those will be in the top 5 moves of the offseason. When they signed Javy last year everyone on ESPN said how great it was except they didn't give any reasons why they thought this time in NY would be any different

And they did. Right in the middle of Sportscenter they dropped everything to announce the Yanks had signed Martin. Jordan4life_2007
I'm really curious to learn more about the details of the vesting option and what would Lee get if he met the criteria. I'm hearing $20+ million? I'm getting sick of all the praise Lee's getting for "taking less" money. If the numbers are anywhere close to said $20 million, then he's not really taking less money at all.

Apparently he left some money on the table, but you are right, what really is he giving up by only making about $24 million a year the next 5 years? If he signed for $10 million a year, I'd give him props, money wasn't important. Money obviously was important.

Will get interesting if he regresses a decent amount and they are pulling him in the 6th inning

And this is another reason I will NEVER get married. Apparently his wife was a major factor in his decision to go back to Philly. b**** STFU and realize you're pretty worthless and just happen to be married to a professional athlete. nitetrain8601
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 06:17 PM) Stay classy. San Diego. Anyway, I actually agree with Jordan4Life, not in those vulgar terms, but I also understand Cliff Lee feels he has a keeper and was willing to compromise. Now if the whole decision was up to his wife, then my opinion differs.

kitekrazy
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20101215/ap_on_...e/bbo_cliff_lee I just read this. I say bullshevik on some of it-not regrading Lee. Players still follow the money. Then again New York is one of the most expensive places to live because of taxation. I read where an NBA player wanted out of Toronto because of taxes. bschmaranz
QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 14, 2010 -> 09:09 PM) I don't think you need to worry about the getting married thing. I was about to say the same thing. Enjoy dying alone chief. And at what point financially does comfort-ability become the deciding factor? I'd rather make $30 million and see my family be comfortable with their surroundings then take $100+ million and be miserable. An athlete's career is short enough, might as well enjoy it while you can. You're financially set in either scenario. (which is Ace money) If his wife thinks NY fans are bad/mean... Philly really isn't exactly "Brotherly Love" themselves.
