Carol put on quite the show of ignorance yesterday.....anyone that backed her needs to really reevaluate their ability to make descicions.

The thought that Rahm not in the race and her actually having a backing is scary what could have happened.

That was absolutely disgusting. I had my mouth open in awe.

Hmmm. Now who could have put together a coalition of black leaders at Rainbow Push to consolidate the vote? How in the hell did this nitwit graduate, no enroll at the U of C law school? God help Chicago and the people who vote for her.

What did I miss?

Watkins asked Carol what has she been doing for the city for the last 15 years. A real good question. Carol's response, "you were high on coke". she never answered the question.

Carol does not even realize what a fool she looked like as that is what makes Watkins story a good one.

Watkins has been clean and sober for 35 years and has a very compelling story, Carol, not so much

To quote it even worse and more accurately Mosely Braun said "You don't remember what I've been doing the last 15 years cause you were high on CRACK"

Mayoral candidate Watkins demands Moseley Braun apologize for 'crack' accusation

Chicago mayoral candidate Patricia Van Pelt-Watkins today is demanding an apology from opponent Carol Moseley Braun after the former U.S. senator accused her of once being a crack user.

Braun's comments came at a South Side candidate forum on Sunday. According to video from the event provided by Trinity United Church of Christ to TV stations, Watkins had taken Braun to task for returning to politics after being "missing in action and lost somewhere" as parts of Chicago struggled.

"Patricia, the reason you didn't know who I was for the last 20 years is because you were strung out on crack," Braun said in video broadcast on FOX-32. "I was not strung out on crack. I don't have a record."

Watkins, a 53-year-old community organizer, has told the Tribune and other media outlets that she used marijuana and cocaine as a teenager for several years. Watkins has said she's been sober for more than 25 years. Watkins also has told the Tribune that she has never used crack.

Today, Watkins will ask for an apology at a late morning news conference.

“What Carol said to me (Sunday) was indefensible and untrue. Carol owes an apology to me and to every person who has struggled with an addiction in the city of Chicago,” Watkins said in a statement. “This says a lot about her character and shows she is not ready to be a leader for Chicago residents."

It's unclear why Braun would go after Watkins, who had 1 percent support in the latest Tribune poll on the mayor's race. Braun was in second place at 21 percent.

I had a teacher in school who ADORED Carol Moseley Braun. She used to work from her and swear she mentioned her at least once per class.

How bad were the other black mayoral candidates, that they chose Braun to represent the African-American community? Whatever votes she gained by being the sole black candidate, I'm sure she lost just as many for being an awful choice

Yeah I was thinking the same thing.

The thing you have to remember is fundraising plays a huge role. Being a former senator, she already had a fundraising apparatus, name recognition, and donors at the helm. And they are going against one of the greatest fundraisers in the country (emanuel). People probably put too much emphasis on that (Coakley in mass. largely got thru the primary b/c of that as well), but it matters a lot.

Wow. Even by the standards of Cook County, which makes the City of Chicago and State of Illinois look like models of fiscal discipline, this is amazing.

Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas has, on her county payroll, a full time driver at 94k/year and a cleaning lady at 57k per year. Only, on her budget, they are labeled as "Project Leader" and "Administrative Analyst". The driver apparently drives her to and from work, and to her yoga class, and spends the rest of the day sitting around. The cleaner works off hours as Pappas' personal cleaning lady.

When questioned about the payrollees, her response: "I'm keeping them".

Now, when Braun was this brazenly stupid, at least in her case, there was no law stating she had to show her taxes. In Pappas' case, she is clearly using taxpayer dollars for her personal benefit. And amazingly, seems to have no issue with that, even when called out publically for it.

Note to Illinois AG - time to dust off the laws for improper use of taxpayer funds and start prosecuting.

I don't understand why people run for office even when they know they are going to lose big.

Make connections with lobbyists and fundraisers that can set you up with the nice, guaranteed income stream for life.

ABC7's exclusive poll on the Chicago mayor's race provides a snapshot of how the candidates are doing as we head into the final two weeks of the campaign.

Rahm Emanuel's 54 percent share in the survey suggests an overwhelming lead, nearly quadrupling second place Gery Chico at 14 percent; Miguel del Valle was third at 8 percent followed by Carol Moseley Braun at 6; others at 3 and undecideds at 15 percent.

The ABC7 poll suggests that if the vote had been held during the survey, Emanuel had enough support citywide to win the election after the first round.

Everyone should vote for Rahm so that we don't have to waste time and money on another round.

Excellent reasoning to vote for a candidate.

Also, here's a recap of yesterday's debate which featured all 6 of the candidates.

Listening to talk radio on the way home the interesting thing is that if Rahm does not get the 50% on the first pass through it could get interesting as the unions are all backing Chico.

I could be written in as mayor too, but it won't happen.
